Our friends in Vedera have been on the road for a while but they're about to come home for the holidays. On Dec. 19, the Kansas City/Epic Records band will headline a show at the Beaumont Club, and it wants to give away 12 pairs of tickets. The new blues is old but good news

The crowd at Crosstown Station on Saturday night was small but in a large mood. By the time the Lee Brothers were three songs into their set, their audience was a handful or two short of 100 persons. By the time the set was over, more than two dozen of them were on the dance floor, dancing, singing along and acting like happy, boozed guests at a wedding reception.

They are coming to the Sprint Center with Darius Rucker on Feb. 19, a Friday. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Dec. 12. They'll be $52.75 and $72.75.

Farewell, Liam Clancy

At the Swell Season show on Monday, Glen Hansard recalled the icons of his boyhood in Ireland: a portrait of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, John F. Kennedy and the Clancy Brothers. He could have been talking about my early boyhood in America. The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem's "Live at Carnegie Hall" was the first album I remember hearing. My father imposed it on us in 1963, when was 5. They have remained fixtures in our lives, as iconic as the Beatles. Monday, Hansard dedicated the song "The Parting Glass" to  Liam Clancy, who was gravely ill back in Ireland. He  died this afternoon.  Above, a version of the song from the guy Bob Dylan called one the best folk singers ever.

Some fine local music, for free

Two local music acts are offering download specials of some stellar new music. The indie-band Ghosty is letting fans name their price for its three-song "O Foolish Pride" EP. And local rappers/producers  D/Will & Stik Figa are offering a free download of its hip-hop project "hellogoodbye."

'Born to Run,' via Leavenworth

Sunday night,  Bruce Springsteen will be an honoree at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., with Robert DiNiro, Dave Brubeck and others. As part of the tribute, Kansas native Melissa Etheridge will sing one of his most revered songs. The event will be aired on CBS on Dec. 29.
