David Cook's 'great news,' and an 'Idol' setlist

Ailivetour2008_3They're not out of your lives yet: The tour comes to Sprint Center in late August.

According to several reviews, during his performance during opening night of the "American Idol" tour in Glendale, Ariz., on Wednesday, Blue Springs native David Cook told the crowd: “I got great news today. My brother’s tumor has stopped growing.” He then dedicated the Foo Fighters' "My Hero" to his older brother, Adam, who has brain cancer.

The tour, which features this season's Top 10 finalists, stops at Sprint Center for two nights in late August -- Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Get tickets here. The tour setlist is below.

Chikezie Eze: "I Believe to My Soul" (Ray Charles), "Caught Up" (Usher), "So High" (John Legend)

Ramiele Malubay: "I Want You Back" (Jackson 5); "Love Will Lead You Back" (Taylor Dayne); "If I Never See Your Face" (Rhianna)

Michael Johns: "We Will Rock You"/"We Are the Champions" (Queen); "It's All Wrong, But It's Alright" (Dolly Parton); "Dream On"  (Aerosmith)

Kristy Lee Cook: "Squeezing the Love Outta You" (Carolyn Dawn Johnson); "God Bless the USA" (Lee Greenwood); "Cowgirls"

Carly Smithson: "Bring Me to Life" (Evanescence); "Crazy on You" (Heart); "I Drove All Night" (Celine Dion)

Brooke White: "Let it Be" (Beatles); "1234" (Fiest); "Yellow" (Coldplay)

Jason Castro: "Over the Rainbow"; "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley); "Daydream" (Lovin' Spoonful)

That is great news about DC's brother! Unfortunately the CANCER that is American Idol is still spreading. For those who really care about REAL music...DON'T BUY TIX FOR THE SHOW. There's a great Tom Petty movie on SUNDANCE this month. Tom sums it up nicely when he questions the logic and sanity of "picking rock stars on TV shows."....

Awww give me a break. The damn music purists (or so they think) really hack me off..I would go see this show and I might if given the chance. All these kids are fairly good to excellent entertainers. Just because they were on a "reality t.v. show"doesn't make them bad musicians, they are trying to make it, anyway they can like everybody else. So they picked a T.V. talent show, whats the crime in that. Why does so many people just look for reasons to crucify other people?

I love Tom Petty, but: The biz is way different now from how it was when he got in it. You gotta take any break you can get. If you really suck, the market will let you know. And I'm amused that he's bothered by shows like "Idol," which can hardly be considered competition for guys like him. David Cook's music will probably sound like several other mainstream bands/artists already popular or on the Top 40 charts. If he sells 1 million records, why does his "Idol" crown make him illegitimate? I can understand objecting to the show and its process, but why argue with the results? Carrie Underwood won, too, and she will soon be, if she isn't already, the biggest star in country music. And she should be. She has evolved into a star. Sometimes even the process gets it right.
