The Bravery: Washed out

We learned this Wednesday night: The roof over the "living room"/pavilion in the Power and Light District isn't big enough to hold back rain from a hurricane. The bands the Bravery and Five Star Crush were scheduled to perform one of the district's free summer concerts at 8 p.m. About 7:30 p.m., a storm blew in. The show was initially delayed and then "postponed" because the fierce winds were blowing the deluge sideways, under the roof and onto the stage and the crowd below. No word yet on a reschedule. (If you went out to Starlight for the Steve Miller/Joe Cocker show, let us know what happened out there.)

Starlight last night was amazing.
The fans (4,500) had a good, albeit, soaking time. Joe Cocker was GREAT and was cut short by the torrential rains. No one wanted to see him get electrocuted, so ending his gig a bit short was OK.

About 2,500 fans toughed it out until the end of Steve Miller. The storm and Steve Miller's crescendo was "Jungle Love". And just as he sang "everything's better when wet" - a bolt of lightening and the skies opened up and drenched everyone even harder. The wind was blowing hard and blowing the rain back onto the stage and Steve Miller just kept on keeping on. He did compliment the Kansas City fans as being the best & most grateful he had ever seen and promised to come back again soon, hoping for better weather. He was gracious & at the end, the whole band took a bow and bid the fans farewell. Although delayed a couple of times, the show went to the anticipated end. Great Fans!
Starlight is wonderful, wet or dry.

I wanted to go to the Bravery again (saw them at Voodoo), glad I did not go.

Widespread Panic's first set was delayed 40 minutes and they were playing inside.

Whoops. They had already started teh first set.

Kathy, I'm sorry to hear about the rain, but I'm glad to hear that it was an otherwise good concert. The Rush concert on June 7th was incredible and you're right...Starlight is the best and my favorite, too!!

starlight was refreshing no pun intended, rain was non stop, but so was the music. No tv screens on side of stage is big plus. Miller looked great, with the addition of sonny charles the band once they got past the radio hits, were charged to play the blues. but mother nature raised her ugly side and threw too many bolts of lighting. Maybe next time will be better, 'cuz it had the making for a special night, cut too short.

I was initially going to head out there but I took one look at the sky (and the weather radar) and headed for P&L, figuring that show would survive and the Starlight show wouldn't. Ha.

We went out and sat from 6 till 9:30 hoping the show would go on, but the rain and hail was too much...Had to settle for hair bands at Angels Rock Bar...

Joe Cocker was amazing he still rocked like he did at Memorial Hall many years ago. Steve Miller was also awesome, rain or more rain it didn't matter, most everyone still had a blast. Glad we didn't leave.

You went to the wrong show (KCPL)We got to starlight just as Steve started. He was so so good. The whole band was. He told everyone to move up as people left and we ended up in the 3rd row. Everyone was singing and dancing along. You could just tell how much fun the band was having as well. He looked great and sounded even better. It may sound strange but we think the rain sorta made it more fun. That experience was worth every single drop.

At least the guys from The Bravery went up and hung out at Angels for a few hours. They were great to hang out with and have drinks with.

they should have come to the Irish bar and put on an acoustic set. I'd have bought them a drink.
