As he introduced "You Wear it Well" to a crowd of nearly 9,000 inside the Sprint Center on Tuesday night, Rod Stewart mentioned that he and Ron Wood wrote the song in 1971 -- 38 years ago. That piece of trivia prompted a few yelps of surprise among some fans on the floor, as if they'd forgotten how long Stewart has been writing, recording and touring.

The Wallflowers may have been a successful band if Jakob Dylan had been born to different parents. Or maybe not. They craft tight, melodic songs that rock just enough to stay out of the folk realm. And their lyrics are thoughtful and artsy/cryptic -- neither transcendently abstract nor knee-jerk cliche.

For four hours Sunday night, the back lot behind Grinder’s felt like a Jamaican resort.
The balmy summer weather was the perfect accompaniment to the music. Toots and the Maytals, the group that invented the word “reggae,” and the Wailers, the band that took it mainstream, celebrated both the roots and the future of the genre for a partially packed but fully appreciative audience.

Jamie Foxx wasn’t the only actor showing off his music skills in Kansas City on Saturday night. Kevin Costner was in town with his band, for a show at Crossroads KC.
And at Sandstone Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, several tribute bands were acting like rock and roll legends at the “Dream Concert,” which featured Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses and U2 look- and sound-alikes.
