Not that I'm pining for attention or credit, but I sent an e-mail to the Star about this several weeks ago when I posted it at my blog. Oh well...

http://andrewzender.wordpress.com/2009/06/23/coming-soon-it-might-get-loud/

doubleK

I might like it, if I didn't hate U2 so much.

andrew

The Edge just really isn't fitting in here. And there's too much Bono heard in the audio of the trailer. I'll still see it.

nickthenerd

Agreed.

The respect I have for Page and White is eighty times greater than what I have for 'The Edge.' Hell I give him -80% respect for having and going by a dumb ass name.

'The Edge' even already proven that he doesn't really play guitar, he just uses the pedal(s) to do his work. LAME.

jm

They are all great in different ways.
You don't know guitar if you don't respect them all, and yes that includes Edge...

Penny

It does look great, but although I really like Jack White, I'm kinda surprised he's being called an 'icon' already. Don't you have to be around a bit longer for that?

nickthenerd

LOL @jm. So you are saying you play more pedals than notes as well?

Paganini Rulz!

I knew as soon as I saw this post – the U2 haters would be flooding this blog…

I am intrigued as to WHY people post hateful messages about a particular band. Does anyone else really care? Does it make you feel better? Do you rant while walking down the street as well? I can’t stand a slew of bands and/or genres however I am RESPECTFUL that others might find some kind of enjoyment out of whatever they choose to like. Even if it is pure cr@p!

Now… back on track - I too find it interesting the producer(s) of this film places these 3 particular guitarists in the same room. White is so organic, Page is a legend and Edge makes lots of noise. But guess what… I love that noise. I love the sounds all 3 make. They all play the same instrument yet opt to express their sound their own way. Hmmm, perhaps that’s the angle of this film. Might be quite interesting.

DF

Andrew Zender is awesome.

(Didn't see your e-mail. All apologies.)

Gary

Speaking of talented musicians: will there not be a review of the Yes/Asia show?
I don't have a problem with the three guitarists. All of them inspired a lot of people in their generation to pick up a 6 string.

punkyjunk

DF, I really needed that boost today. Thanks. :-)

To the U2 debate/defenders >> I'd like to clarify that I never said I hated the Edge or U2 - just pointed out that he doesn't seem to fit in with the other two guitarists.

GB

The guy who did It Might Get Loud did An Inconvenient Truth.

I wonder if the original title of that was "It Might Get Warm"

Gary

Each guitarist represents an era: Page the 60s and 70s, the Edge the late 80s through early 90s and White this decade.

Tim

think it looks great and mostly because none of those three really look like they belong together

Bubba

What is this - another supergroup like CHICKENFOOT? Yeah, supergroups are okay - some better than others. There's ASIA, THE FIRM, DAMN YANKEES...

Someone come up with a few others.

Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, Blind Faith.....

...can Jack White be an icon yet? Yes, look at the run Jimmy Page had w/ Led Zeppelin.(i use led zeppelin because that's where he's largely known for) Roughly 10 years. White's been at it in the mainstream for 10 years. Sure his music doesn't have 30 plus years of classic rock radio dragging it through the mud, but in 30 years a White Stripes or Raconteurs album will still sound damn good cranked up on my stereo.

BTW: Mr. Sensitive needs to lighten up. It's an internet blog. People speak out their ass and don't hold back. If you are offended, hit back on your browser and go see your shrink for more self affirmation....

Bubba

TINTED WINDOWS? At first, I thought you made that up - but I can now tell that you didn't. BLIND FAITH was in the back of my mind.

TRAVELING WILBURYS were great - too bad they could never tour. As for BAD ENGLISH, they were okay.

Paganini Rulz!

Dear Mr/Mrs Teacher,

I’m only offended when people make a one or two line statement such as – I hate “so and so”, without ANYTHING to back it up. What’s the point in that? Where’s the dialog? Is that what this or any other blog is about? However it appears you wrote the book on all things right and wrong in regards to internet blogging. I guess I’ll step aside and let these simple-minded blogger’s cr@p on each other 24/7.

However I do agree with your assessment of Jack White’s material. He rocks, and his material seems timeless.

Mr Sensitive

punkyjunk

Teach, I don't know what else Jimmy Page would be known for outside of Zep. Can't say he's had a glowing solo career. But that's beside the point...I too worship at the altar of Zep.

So, to the rest of the board, although people can easily get ripped to shreds here, please come forward with your honest opinions: has anyone heard the Tinted Windows record, and is it any good?

I've heard some say that it's sh*t, some say it's just a bit of a guilty pop pleasure, and others have said it's brilliant. I've kept my distance, for now.

Gary

Um, Page was in a band called the Yardbirds before Led Zeppelin and played session guitar on who knows how many songs in the 60s. He did a bit more than just Led Zeppelin.

MetalHEAD

Uh....Jack White ICON? Icon defined:

IcoN:Hendrix
ICoN:Clapton
iCON:Vaughn
icOn:Rhoads

ICON: PAGE.

ICON: (not JW....decent, but no Jack Kennedy...)

Zod

Tinted Windows is a good idea, finely executed, and ultimately repetitive. I listened to it once, said, OK, I get it, and moved on. I think Taylor Hanson and James Iha eventually drag down Adam Schlessinger.

Bun E. Carlos, however, is unassailable.

Bubba

Just an idea for a supergroup: bassist LEMMY, guitarist TONY IOMMI, drummer JASON BONHAM and vocalist ROB HALFORD.

Maybe call them the IRON KINGS. Just a thought.

The Teacher

Glad we agree on something Mr Sensi. As for my Manual on Internet Blogging, I'm still negotiating the publishing rights and will be announcing its release soon. In the mean time, I've resigned myself to visiting the music blogs of second tier midwestern cities and flaming mulletheads who think that icons of guitar rock cannot include anyone that's come along since 1983.

jm

pedal to the metal, baby

MetalHEAD

Mulletheads.....oooh, Baby, that's original:)...

Include therefore post 1983:

I:Mark Morton
IC: Adam Jones
ICO: Mick Thomson
ICON: Dime

Jack White....still no Jack Kennedy.......

punkyjunk

Yes, I am aware that Jimmy Page was in the Yardbirds and was a big session guitarist - but what I'm saying is that I don't think he's earned his "iconic" status b/c of the Yardbirds & session work - it's what he created in Zeppelin that cemented his status.

I view his earlier endeavors as part of the build-up of the "story" of Jimmy Page/Zeppelin. Regardless, we're on the same page - all of his work is pure guitar genius and the man is a legend.
