We made contact with jazz musician Matt Chalk, the Shawnee Mission East senior who is in Los Angeles for tonight's Grammy Awards show (7 p.m. on KCTV, Channel 5). Chalk will perform with the official 2010 Grammy Band, then step in and perform live on the air with the Dave Matthews Band. Via text-message, he told us how all this came about:

We've alread listed many of the good shows in the local music world tonight, but here's one we overlooked and it's worth recommending. It's a benefit for Young Variety of Kansas City, a group that helps special-needs children. This show will benefit "Kids On the Move," the group's campaign to buy therapeutic bicycles for children with physical disabilities.

Trainwreck will help ring out St. Patrick's Day at the Riot Room, 4048 Broadway. The band features Klip Calhoun -- or Kyle Gass of Tenacious D -- and several Tenacious D associates, like Jason Reed, John Konesky and John Spiker (also of Filter). Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show.
Today came word of the next Jakob Dylan album, to be called "Women and Country" and to be released April 6. In the middle of my yawn, I read this: "On the release, Jakob is also joined by Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, who provide back-up vocals to eight of the album’s 11 tracks." The producer: T Bone Burnett.

Tuesday night's show at the Midland theater was the second in 19 months for Art Aleksakis and the ever-changing lineup of Everclear, and you could have attended both of those shows and spent less than $10 on admission.
