Here's what I came up with, based on songs I recognized and descriptions of songs I didn't. I was so blown away by the bass solo I didn't make note of it so my placement here is a guess:
Revelers out for nothing more than a good time on Thursday could have found no better place to celebrate than the VooDoo Lounge. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony knows how to throw a high-spirited party. Music fans hoping for a serious exposition of the hip hop group's music, however, were left disappointed.
We missed this announcement, which came earlier this week: They'll perform upon the velveteen carpet at Crossroads KC on July 29, a Thursday. Tickets are $21.50 to $61.50.
The shows are piling up on the music docket. Here's a list of ticket sale dates; some of these went on sale this week, including the Gaslight Anthem show a the Midland in July.
Here's your chance to see a good-time local band and raise some money for a good cause. Flannigan's Right Hook (above) will perform during a fund-raiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society tonight at Harry's Country Club. All of your $5 admission goes to the LLS. Plus there's a beer special: for every Anderson Valley beer sold, Harry's will donate $1 to the cause. Show time is 7:30 p.m. on one of the best patios in the city.
The Flaming Lips have canceled some shows because multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd has been hospitalized. No one has yet reported why. And the prognosis for Poison frontman Bret Michaels is incredibly good: He may resume touring within four weeks.
Instrumental music has carved out a niche of its own in the history of rock and pop. Some wordless songs, like "Classical Gas," "Popcorn" and "Rock and Roll Part 2," even took a perch on the Top 40 charts. But popular music is primarily a universe for songs with vocals -- words that give the listener a more personal level of emotional involvement.
Not sure how they'll come across in an arena that will be loaded with fans cranked up to hear the headliner. But they delivered at a much smaller venue, Stubb's, at South by Southwest this year. Here are a couple of vids for the uninitiated. THe PJ/BOH show is Monday at Sprint Center.
