That's TOO bad. I really hope RONNIE JAMES DIO gets better. We're not ready to see you go yet.

Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.

"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.

"We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.

"Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.

"Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

My two cents:

This is the biggest loss for metal ever. RJD was universally loved and respected by the entire community and from band members and fans of every genre. He really is the embodiment of "heavy metal" and had one of the greatest, if not the greatest, voices in rock and roll history.

While the death of Peter Steele affected me more personally, Dio's passing will rock the metal world until year's end at least.

Dude was 67 and bounded around the stage like someone 40 years younger than him and sounded like he was at the top of his game, which I guess he actually was.

RIP Ronnie.

Ronnie James Dio sang on Kerry Livgrens Christian album Seeds of Change, he Sang Mask of the Great Deceiver and Live for the King with such conviction.

I know I will see him in Heaven

Bubba

I'd like to know WHAT happened? Reports said that he wasn't doing THAT good just yesterday. Too bad 98.9 The Rock couldn't get HEAVEN & HELL to play a recent Rockfest or Freakers Ball in the last few years. I, for one - was sort of hoping for that.

Bubba:

Apparently he just succumbed to the cancer.

Bubba

Mankvill, CALL me naive but I thought they could ALMOST 'cure' cancer these days IF they catch it early enough. I know MORE people now ages 35-50 that are a cancer survivor than those that aren't. PLUS, recently, I saw in the KC Star obit section a woman I went out with a few times over a year ago HAD her brain cancer return and SHE too died from cancer.

I'm obviously having a somber Sunday. DIO used to be one of my favorites.

Steve

How can you know you'll see Ronnie James Dio in heaven, since you can't know whether you're going to heaven?

Gary Dean

I Tell You The Truth, Today You Will Be with Me In Paradise.”

Luke 23:43 (New International Version)

Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

As we come to the second “words of the cross,” we find ourselves listening to a deathbed conversation between three dying men. It begins with one of the criminals mocking Jesus, it continues with the other criminal defending Jesus and recognizing His rule, and it concludes with Jesus pardoning the repentant man and giving him eternal life.

Steve I met RJD and if you would like to know more about HOW I know I am going to Heaven please

@Bubba:

I still think he just got done slaying like 100 dragons and was writing the next 2 Magica albums when the corpse of one fell on him. That makes a much better headline.
