Certainly nothing surprising and I'm not even sure it would relieve your boredom but I've been enjoying the new Black Crowes double-disc 'Croweology', old songs re-recorded in an acoustic setting, embellished w/ some nice mandolin & fiddle work by former BR549 and current Dylan band member, Donnie Herron. Again, nothing groundbreaking here but still nice to hear fresh takes on some well-worn classics.

Also picked up 'Mulennium', the new release of Govt Mule's 1999 NYE show from ATL...a 3-disc set for just $9.99. The middle disc featuring Little Milton is the definite highlight.

Black Joe Lewis should do you well if you like James Brown

Along the Byther Smith vein, that Solomon Burke "Nashville" album is fantastic. "Fast Train." "That's How I Got to Memphis." "Ain't Got You."

Here's my summer favorites if you're asking.

"J Roddy Walston & the Business" self-titled. Bad name, great album.

Tech N9Ne - Collabos: The Gates Mixed Plate. Lot's of KC shout outs.

"If I should Fall Behind" - Adam Carolla Podcast. Nils Lofgren does a fantastic live version of Bruce's already wonderful song.

Rooney - "Eureka" Powerpop at it's finest

Sheryl Crow - "100 Miles From Memphis" - First album since her debut that I've listened to more than once.

Ryan Leslie - "Transition" - cool 70's vibe R&B.

Scissor Sisters - "Night Work" - Blast this at your next summer party and dancing will ensue.

Steel Panther - "Feel the Steel" - Lot's of laughs and headbanging in one album

David Cross - "Bigger & Blacker" - If you saw David the last time he was in town, this is recorded version. Funny stuff.

Zod,

Checked out the Solomon Burke album. VERY nice. Thanks for the heads up.

Mike A

I play the New Black Keys a lot.

That SB 'Nashville' album is excellent but I dig his previous release, 'Don't Give Up On Me' even more. That's actually the album that includes 'Fast Train'.

The new Los Lobos-'Tin Can Trust' is very good and Dr. John's 'Tribal' is mighty fine as well.

SUN KIL MOON -"Admiral Fell Promises"

A bit more laid back than his previous efforts, as it's just Mark Kozelek on guitar and vocals, but it's really growing on me. Mark, along with Joe Pernice (of The Pernice Brothers), are two of the most underrated songwriters around, circa 2010.

Bruce W.

I just saw Violent Soho at Lollapalooza. For the Nirvana/Slayer molesting Melvins/Mastodon sect, this is pretty intense live thrash. Good Aussie act.

JO

The new Alejandro Escovedo is great. Super duet with Springsteen on one song.

lettsrock

The latest Jason and The Scorchers release "Halcyon Times" is great. Loud and fast with hooks to spare. Anyone that caught their set at Knuckleheads a few weeks ago will testify...

Naturelle

I'm just trying to keep up with y'all - I gotta write some of this stuff down - lots to check out!

I've been digging Tom Petty's new one "Mojo". Latest edition of RS Magazine makes reference to his last Sprint Center show and the "mini set" of new stuff. Mentions the crowd seeming to want the old stuff. The Black Keys have been in the rotation as well.

Will have to check out new Sheryl Crow and Alejandro Escoveda. Music does rule.

JP Carter

I have been listening to the Kleptones. They have a new album out called S**t & Giggles. They do mash-ups. Really well done and innovative. And it is free for download from their website. Their other albums are also good.

mankvill

Old-school slam death metal.

Devourment - Babykiller

Don't hate. Appreciate!

Mike A... agree, the black keys album is great. this cover of "i got mine" might be better than the original though... IMO of course.

flutechick

"Graffiti the World" by Rehab. Their new album is being released Sept. 7. There's profanity, but their songwriting is amazing, as are their harmonies.

Jeff Brown

I've been really loving the Avett Brother's release from last year, "You And I And Love", it is a rock album that has rootsy elements of folk, bluegrass, blues without pandering or leaving the rock behind.

The new Chromeo album, "Business Casual" is a semi-throwback eighties-esque electro soul party that brings a smile to my face and makes me dig out my old Zapp & Roger, Cameo, Gapp Band, and Midnight Starr albums for another go round.

And the Admiral Radley release "I Heart California" has me amused and enjoying this indie rock blending of two great bands. It is a good mix (just like the anagram title) of what made both Grandaddy & Earlimart such wonderful bands to begin with.

Green

Surfer Blood is pretty sweet, wish I had seen them in Lawrence last year, hope they come around soon

Scott

Speaking of Jason & The Scorchers, I've been enjoying the live album Midnight Roads & Stages Seen from 1998. Some really good stuff.

My favorite songs this summer include:
"Post Acid" - Wavves
"Boyfriend" - Best Coast
"Born Free" - M.I.A.
"It's Working" - MGMT

I like the Grace Potter and the Nocturnal album a lot as well.
