Mike, you are an idiot.

Pizza Hut sales pasta, just say'n ...

Clint

Has U2 sold out Busch stadium yet?

I can't wait to go to this, it will be so much fun except it might be 100 degrees when it starts

The Hamburglar

I don't believe U2 has sold out. Hmmm, therefore it appears Mr Chesney can sell more tix than U2. Therefore if McDonalds sells more hamburgers than say, Hereford House, McDonalds is more impressive or perhaps, better?

Personally I think it's absolutely wonderful Mr Chesney is selling so many tickets. There's a ton of money to be made from the hotels, restaurants, vendors, etc. However this show is about the last place on earth I'd want to be. But I won't knock anyone else from going. I simply cannot use an artists popularity as a gauge in determining how much I like or appreciate an artists material.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Spice Girls, or the Backstreet Boys have sold more records than Patsy Cline and Etta James combined (hopefully I'm wrong). Does this impress anyone?

NEW

Geez Rules, and you thought mother was kidding when she pleaded with you to stay in school....

Well said Hamburglar. I think it's a safe bet that the Spice Girls sold more records than Etta James. Closer to thread, I am pretty sure Kenny Chesney has sold more records than Graham Parsons, but would there even be a Kenny Chesney if there was not a Graham Parsons?

Mayor McCheese

The whole theory that an artist's popularity doesn't necessarily equate quality is one of the main points of this or any other Music blog. It always bares repeating, but the whole history of Popular music is rife with stories of dubious 'artists' outselling better performers. Most of us knew this. People who fill Sandstone to see Jack Johnson when the Tom Pettys of the world can't fill an arena apparently don't get it, but that's life, I suppose, Hamburglar.

joe

NEW, no doubt that Chesney and others need to tip their hats to the Gram Parsons', Richie Furay's, et al of the world. They all blazed a trail that the Eagles, Jimmy Buffet and others took to the bank in the mid 70's. Chesney is merely a continuation of that. He's harmless -- seems like a decent guy and provides entertainment to a large number of people. Not my thing, but I can understand it.

Clint

Quality is the eyes of each person who attends the concert. Etta James is a legenday artist, but I don't think she would be that entertaining to me.

It seems that most people here like to announce to the world what is "good" music and what is "bad" or commercial. I am not sure if Jack Johnson or Tom Petty is better music, but it up to the people who go to concerts to do decide if they want to go to one, both or neither.

I think the only point of this story was to show that when Arrowhead booked Kenny Chesney instead of (pick your group here), they probably made a wise choice.

Clint

Speaking of artists this site loves to hate, Taylor Swift is coming to Arrowhead Sept 24th

joe

Mayor McCheese... Maybe Petty isn't the best to reference. He's sold a bunch of tickets over the years. Maybe the last few years it hasn't been the same, but there were many summer shows at Sandstone that Petty filled to the brim. I think a better performer to wonder why they can't even fill Davey's Uptown while Jack Johnson is filling Sandstone is Chuck Prophet. That is mind boggling to me. Prophet has many songs that are radio friendly, bona fide hits. But he must not look the part or play the game in the way in needs to played these days. I don't know, but from a songwriting standpoint, I don't know of anyone short of John Hiatt that writes better songs these days.

The Hamburglar

And at the end of the day...
I either hear an artist bearing their soul within a song or not. If I sense it's "manufactured" then I'll move along to something else. Doesn't matter if it's rock, pop, country, etc. And obviously this is extremely subjective.
Odds are the melodies and lyrics from a songwriter or performer bearing their soul will stand the test of time. Does it mean it's better than "insert artist of the month here"? Of course it doesn't.
I simply appreciate and enjoy an actual sense of true emotion being played out within a song. I'm certain there are people that have an emotional connection to a particular song by the Spice Girls or The Backstreet Boys. So be it.
I also do not simply hate anyone that plays a large stadium or arena. I have enormous respect for the Stones, Garth Brooks, McCartney, etc.

cuntry suks

All of these bands should send a royalty check to Michael Cohl, he basically invented the monster concert as a massive profit center, but he did it with REAL (talented)acts, not the skankDejour, some blonde skinny lil over hyped tramp singing bubblegum BS cuntry twangs bout breakin up with another boy... (btw- maybe the problem is her, ya know? after so many breakups?).

Cohl helped invent the mold and the band played great music with big special eefects...and these junk acts juts do the same thing, but without the time put in, or talent, it is a joke...... but they are making money hand over fist... so good for them, but is does not make it right, there is no soul.

Kurt

Boston is a much larger metro than KC. Boston is not too far from NYC also. Kenny Chesney reminds me of Sammy Hagar with the Tequila in Mexico vacation theme.

Kurt

Michael Cohl was the promotor for Genesis 'Turn it on Again' tour in 2007. This tour did stadiums in Europe and arenas with a few stadiums in North America. I missed it and Chicago was the nearest it was to KC also.

ROCKER

uh, Kurt, with all due resepct, Sammy fkn Hagar is rock and fkn roll with a bunch of great ass songs... and chestnuts it well.... cuntry crap.

RED RED I LIKE RED!!!
CANT DRIVE 55,,
MASS TEQUILA!!!

the only bad part is Sammy is partial to st louie... so fk him.... and fk st louie, that sht town is now ranked as the most crime ridden town in the world, kids raped, parents murdered, grandma made to cook trukey dinner... THE HORRORS!!... there is nothing good about st louie.... except that is on the other side of the state, to far to for rapist and grandmas to walk..... so we are safe....... SOOOOOO...
FK ST LOUIE AND
FK CHESTNUT.....
not to go off on a tangent or anything.

Kurt

Sorry for making anyone angry. I was meaning to say that Kenny Chesney is ripping off from Sammy Hagar. I've seen Sammy Hagar with Van Halen on the 1991 tour at Sandstone. County seems to be ripping off from rock lately.

ROCKER

angry? come on man, that aint anger... now if you wanna talk about freedomd fondling by the TSA, we can there, but why? The clock say 8:00 (really 7:18) it is time to rock.

Happy Holidays,
Be Dangerous.
