Hey, I posted on Nov. 4th "Taylor Swift I bet will be the second Arrowhead artist next summer."

Do I get a prize?

cuntry suks

Will she be bringing her vocal auto-tuner?

American music tastes are absolutely pathetic, this is a joke.

Kilby

I know there's a market for Country Music in this neck of the woods, but I would love to see a multi-band Rock Show at Arrowhead. No Classic Rock bands or Nu-Metal bands, as there are plenty of those types of Fests, but five or six 'relevant' bands that combined, could bring a crowd to the stadium. I remember the two Summer Jams I went to as a teen in 1982 and the vibe was really cool. A football stadium is possibly the worst venue for ANY concert, but without a ton of pyrotechnics, it would just bore me to see a Country artist in that setting.

You could maybe get a headliner with the stature of a Tom Petty, REM (who have a new album out next year), or Neil Young, and then throw in Wilco, The Black Crowes, Drive-By Truckers, Old 97's, etc., etc., and have a solid bill that people would want to see. Just something big for Rock fans....or maybe get some of the Classic Metal bands together (Priest, Maiden, Ozzy, Motorhead, Slayer, Metallica-never liked 'em, but throw 'em in anyway- etc.), or reform some Classic Punk bands for a Fest. I dunno, but I'm not down for a Country show in a stadium. Knuckleheads, sure, but not Arrowhead.

Steve

I hear you Kilby. I killed some brain cells at those summer jams myself. Good times.

Emily

Weird, I can't think of a rock band that I think could sell out Arrowhead.

lotsofem

uuuuhhhh, have you ever heard of the Rolling Stones?

Emily

Do you think they would sell out Arrowhead today still? I guess I don't think so... I could be wrong.

Yeah

em, weeeeeeeelllll, you know, facts be known, today? I dont know if they can or not... maybe not.... but probably, not to be wishy washy or anything....

....but ya know, I have NEVER understood the concept of stadium shows. Who is it that is happy to pay money and sit WAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY up there? Isnt seeing it on TV better?, or is exactly the same?, becasue up/back there you cant see the little dolls, you watch it on a screen.

I have seen the Stones 30-40 times, usually always in some bigass venue (somewhere across 3 countries over 25-40 years) and I was NEVER further away than 30th row, and as close as front row (on average 10th row) and if I am in the 10th row, it is not a bigass venue, it is like knuckleheads....
But I ask...
Who is happy sitting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up/back there?

You could not pay me cashmoney to sit up there. I think hell may be similar to being up/back there or being trapped in the grass at sandstone or stcuk in the upper deck at the back of Arrowhead 2 miles from the astist..... that is not fun.... that is hell. I have not seen a concert from upstairs fo 100 years.. and I swore NEVER AGAIN...

I know the artist/promoter/ticketbastrd make a lot of money selling tickets ar Arrowehead, but IMO it is ripping off the fans. I wanna see the white s of their eyes, I wnat them to smile at me, hear me, throw me a pick....... That is a live show ... to me anyway.

Peace be with you, and I hope you have fun at the show and I hope you get seats in the first 5 rows.

Stones could sell it out, I would say U2 but they have had issues selling in bulk here in kc. Truth is, not a lot of rock bands out there that are huge any more. Dave Matthews does stadiums but not around here, Metallica did it in the early 90's but they had help from guns n roses. Pink Floyd had no problem but that was with a full band, how many does rockfest pull? Even if rockfest could pull a sell out it wouldnt really rock in arrowhead, to many small bands and a festival in a stadium would be terrible. Face it, we will in the midwest, country is big here and taylor is hot at the moment, best of luck to the girl. Curious who she will be with, Kenny is bringing a hot band with Zach Brown, I think Taylor could have a hard time but lets not forget, its that demographic that made Titanic a ton of money in the theatre.

mankvill

Arrowhead shows.

Maybe the rumored Big Four tour???

Joe

Sorry for being out of the loop, but who is The Big Four?

Taylor Swift will sell well anywhere. Taylor Swift was on the recent American Music Awards show and has mass appeal.

Is U2 the big four tour? U2 has four members in the band. Some prior tours by U2 in KC didn't sell out but, latest tour probably would though.

Dump Troll- cuntry suks

oops...
better give ya the link, eh?

look quick, no telling it will be left up, but the quality is AMAZING.

esp for the lovely Penny, she is awseome

The Big Four = Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth.

ROCKER

ANTHRAX??
Dont they screen for Anthrax? I ado not think they could pass through security, sorry

pellboy

One rock act that I could see filling a large majority of Arrowhead might be AC/DC, especially if paired with the right supporting acts. They're probably one of the more universally liked rock acts...young, old, snobs and mainstream alike. I think they sold real well at their last 2 SC shows which were barely a year apart so they're obviously popular in this area anyway.

I'll take a stab at a solid Arrowhead (or even better, Kaufmann) lineup...

AC/DC - headliner

Incubus (or maybe a Kings of Leon) - brings in a somewhat younger crowd, these guys have also sold well in KC and they can rock enough to hold their own

Hold Steady or Gaslight Anthem type band- sort of up-and-coming type act that rocks hard and can bring in a younger, more hipster crowd while still appealing to some of us old rockers

Green

I dont think Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth would sellout arrowhead. Megadeath played the Beaumont Club recently. Nothing against Anthrax and Slayer but i dont see them as big crowd pullers. Metallica can bring a crowd but not sure they can pull 50 to 60K. Tool is the biggest rock band out there at the moment and they wouldnt go near a stadium for a show aside from a festival gig.

NEW

Doesn't Rockfest pull in 50K or are those numbers inflated? I would think that beefing up that lineup a little while keeping the ticket prices as reasonable as they are could easily draw 60K. You could do the side stages in the parking lot.

Let's face it. KC is not very big market (26th in the nation I think). There are not many acts or festivals that are going to sell more than 50K tickets no matter what. On the flipside, it works well for us. Having spent most of my life in major market cities (NY, DC), it's nice to live in a place where you are not constantly shut out of events or have to take it up the butt by getting tickets through the aftermarket. I have never paid more than face value for a show in KC. Another added benefit of KC is we get to see acts like WSP at the Midland where they regularly play arenas in larger markets.

Let's be thankful that our favorite big acts can't sell out Arrowhead and play smaller venues instead. I imagine it sucks for concerts anyway.

donnam

Here's a crazy idea -- instead of selling tickets to Sprint Center for upwards of $100 or more, why not slash the price and play to five times as many happy people at Arrowhead? At $20 or $30 a ticket, I bet a lot of bands could sell the place out. At $100, not so much. (Those old Rockfest shows were FUN, at least as much as I can remember of them.)

Emily

I agree with the last post - I'm not spending over $50 to sit up in the nosebleeds at Arrowhead to see anyone. Part of the reason that Garth Brooks sold out all of those concerts was because tickets were $25. I realize they have to make money, but I just don't have a desire to spend a ton of money to not be able to see much.

ROCKER

I will add this about Kansas City...
If you have ever talked to people in the rock and roll business, prootoers/artist etc etc.... from the lone star to kemper to Sprint etc etc... listen to what they ALL say....

For all the poking fun BS I have to put up with .... "YOU ARE FROM KANSAS?" ...."Dorothy and toto"? and "cowstown"?.. etc etc.... but, when you talk to a people in rock and roll business... THEY ALL LOVE THIS TOWN, ALL FO THEM. I love the grin of respect they get...
They say kicks ass, they say this town fkn rocks, they say it is a lot of fkn fun.

We may be 26th market in money.... but #1 in their hearts, this is not to mention THE FACT, that Kansas City sings better as a group of concert goers than any town I have ever visited, and I have been to a lot. Whne they say to KC, "YOU ALL SING GOOD.... they are not bsing.

Kurt

Taylor Swift's new tour will start in Singapore. It will go to 4 continents and 16 countries. Taylor Swift is a crossover artist known worldwide.

Kurt

Saw the tour listing and there are 6 stadium shows in the USA. Most of this tour is in arenas with multi shows in them.

jhnycat

Who is making the concert deals in this town?
We lose U2 to a baseball stadium in st lou, (crappy venue for their show, better suits a football stadium). And now two quasi country stadium shows? I can't believe the Chiefs are going to be the most exciting attraction there..go figure.

Clint

U2 still isn't sold out though....

And it looks like Taylor Swift is the big ticket for 2011

http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/12/07/taylor-swift-speak-now-tour-sells-out/

 Jonny CA$H

Well Clint, it's good to see Taylor and her management etc will be so profitable. Thank you for pointing this out. Obviously this is great news for the venues and all of the ancillary parties, hotels, restaurants, toy stores, etc.

Who needs a timeless melody when everyone's making so much money?

Plus I've heard a rumour The Nelson Art Gallery is shipping all of their art to the basement to make way for an exhibit of Thomas Kinkade paintings. This should increase their attendance 100 fold.

Cassandra

Rock Festivals do work well in a stadium. Check out Rock on the Range in the Columbus Crew Stadium. Brings in over 110,000 people over 2 days, and has many of the same bands as Rockfest. It would do well in arrowhead.

Kurt

I saw on Pollstar that Taylor Swift is having 2 shows at Gillette Stadium in Boston (Foxboro). TS is having 6 shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles also. There were many cities with 2 arena shows. Shows are selling out as fast as possible.

Kurt

Taylor Swift may sell better than U2 in parts of the USA. TS did just finish her Fearless tour in 2009/2010 also.

Stockholm Syndrome Survivor

"Taylor Swift may sell better than U2 in parts of the USA."

Well, a Monster Suck Jam with The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and headliner, that Rock God, Justin Bieber, would probably sell out multiple shows at the Stadium. Let the kiddie groups, the BORING, repetitive bands that play out in the mud at Rockfest each year, and the polished, commercial Country Artists, play at The Sprint Center where I can ignore them, and someone PLEASE bring a quality Festival to the Stadium.

I've been wanting to see one of those kind of shows in years and I'm sure there's an audience for it. Not a bunch of staid 'Classic' Rock bands with a few original members in each, either. Surely, there will be a few artists headlining the big sheds around the country this coming Summer, who combined, could pull this off. A stadium isn't the best venue, sure, but those festivals of old had an atmosphere that is infectious (in the best meaning of the word). Promoters, get to work! Update and bring back the 'Summer Jam' for a whole new generation.

Kurt

I wasn't saying a certain act is better just because they may sell more tickets. I'm sure U2 is able to sell more tickets overall than Taylor Swift. U2 is doing a stadium tour everywhere.
