Linkin Park finds itself at a crossroads a lot of bands have trouble navigating. Last year, the band best known for its fusion of hip-hop and modern rock, released “A Thousand Suns,” its fourth studio album and its first in more than three years. It also launched its first tour since 2008.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith serves as a judge on the current season of "American Idol." Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses lost the plot years ago. Who, then, is today's premier rock and roll front man? Josh Todd of Buckcherry, hardly a shrinking violet, might suggest that he's the genre's top dog. He certainly made a convincing case for himself during an electrifying performance Friday at the Midland Theater.

He was much more than just the Chiefs' No. 1 booster. From his obituary in The Star: "DiPardo, was a trumpeter and swing-era veteran who became a successful conductor of hotel and society bands here beginning in the 1940s. He later formed a booking agency through which he hired musicians — many of them skilled jazz players — for a wide variety of engagements and fielded numerous bands simultaneously under the DiPardo name." He died this morning. He was 98.
