I've heard buzz about TV On The Radio for years, and every time I see them on Letterman, Conan, etc., I just don't get the appeal. It just seems that any band that hails from Brooklyn gets a free Hipster pass. I'll skip this one.

Great live band. They are faithful to their oldest material. They opened their P&L show with Young Liars from their debut EP. Lots of noise and funk. This is a band that puts a lot of emphasis in its lyrics rather than just instrumentation. They are smart, peaceful thinkers rather than just 'Brooklyn Hipsters.' But some people just want lots of beer and guitar solos, I guess.
!!! is similar to LCD Soundsystem live in that they bring a full band to jam out their dance tunes. I really enjoyed them too.

hmmmm I dont know if anyone has ever pointed it out or not, but....
August 27th huh?? Didnt it occur to anyone that the temp will be about 120 DEGREES!! or it will rain.
YIKES!!!
It is a good thing our Star reviewers are a bunch of studs, a healthy young healthy group. (please drink lots of liquids that day)(we want you to stay around)
ps
Ahhhhhhhhhh,
nothing like being outside in Kansas City in late August,
nothing like sweating like a pig...
...when you could be inside, comfortable, with modern A/C blowing on you. There are many other local venues with modern upgrades, but the Crossroadskc screws over fans of a band, AGAIN.
If
it aint raining,
it is 40 degrees, or
it is 120 degrees.
This place sucks for a show.
It makes no sense.

Per weather.com, the average high temperature in Kansas City on August 27th is 86º. And this show will probably start right at sunset, so it has a good chance of being beautiful out. How this affects the mulch remains to be seen.
Posted by: jjskck | May 19, 2011 at 03:06 PM
I'll concur with jj on that. We have had a standing outdoor gig on that last Friday of August for numerous years now and the weather has typically been great. The heat seems to break by then.
Posted by: NEW | May 19, 2011 at 03:33 PM
The average high temperature in a temp controlled concert venue in Kansas City on August 27th is 72-76º with low humidity, (cuz it is NOT the heat it is the humidity)...
and as an added bonus, indoor REAL venues have a roof (walls too) in case it rain, not to mention REAL PUMBING, (flushing toilets plus a sink to wash your hands)....
...of course this is not a benefit if one is scatkinky and enjoys the fragrant aroma of fresh poopy and potty and the sounds it makes as it plops on bottom of a cheap porta potty, or splashes on top on the previous dumpings.
Most REAL indoor Kansas City concert venues make it seem almost like it is 2011, versus seeming like it is circa 1913 at the crossroadskc.
If the dump would not book acts I want to see, then I would not care, but I want to see TV on the Radio, and they are cheating me out of a show.

shut up quit bitching FOR REAL. crossroads rules and books a killer summer every year. if you are afraid of weather get the hell out of missouri. Go take your dump at the ritz carlton, porta-pottys WONT kill you.
its not like the charge you an astronomical price for any show.
20-35 usually.

"YouTube on DirecTV"
the hottest thing since
video killed the radio star.

I saw Dylan last August, I thought it might be bad but it cooled down at sunset, an outdoor augie show could be a bit much but drink lots of water, wear a hat and dress cool and all should be well.
Posted by: Green | May 19, 2011 at 10:00 PM
Well siad Green, drink pleanty of water, pray for no rain and cool weather, or....
or... or.... maybe they could be civilized and act like they like in 2011 and play at a real venue with air conditioning.
Playing an outdoor show in July / August in Kansas City is abusive to fans and just plain fkn stupid, and any ignorant hillbilly whom wants to argue it fine to play in 110 degree / 95% humidity Kansas City heat is an idiot. period.

PS
Anyone going to the dump tomorrow night, have fun in the pouring rain. Rain all day, rain all night.
Yeah outside concerts are so much fun.
btw-
THIS IS THE THIRD SHOW, IN A ROW,
WHERE THAT OUTSIDE VENUE WILL RUIN A CONCERT, and people still defend that place? What a joke.
ps
take rain gear and keep repeating, it is fun, juts like camping, it is fun, just like camping.
pps
I will stop posting about it, when they fix it, or stop having shows there.

There are way too many princesses on here whining about the weather and crossroads. You're not made out of sugar and you won't melt. Crossroads puts on a hell of a show and as far as the porta-potties, it's four hours. go to the bathroom before you go. And honestly I think it's more comfortable standing on the mulch than a concrete slab...Wusses

Do you feel better now?
Does calling people names(people who did not attack you) make you feel good?
People posted an opinion about this crappy venue, they did not insult you.
It seems very odd that you, and others, stoop to personally insulting others when they did not insult you, unless you are an owner (or promoter) of this crap hole.
If you want to sweat your ass off, or get soaked in the pouring rain, feel free, but allow others to say to that they do not want to join in, and they are pissed whn a fav band of theirs plays this dump.
If people like to stay dry and cool while enjoying music, then let them.
This is business, not personal.
Why would anyone stoop to insulting others personally?
wussses? princesses? who the fuck are you to judge anyone?
Post your opinion and let others post thier opinions. Keep it about the venue. If you love it fine... if you hate fine... but why judge and insult others based on that....
...unless YOU ARE THE SCHMUCKFUCKS RUNNING THAT CRAPHOLE... then it IS about you, and you ARE a failure POS, and Lucinda Williams thinks you are POS too, becasue you treat paying customer like crap.
If you are a civilian, on the sideslines.... why would you insult others? Let people post what they think withput being personal.
and if you dont like the complaining, then use your mouse and slide past the comments that you dont like.

"But some people just want lots of beer and guitar solos."
No, I don't want "radio covers" and although I have been going to see bands in clubs for eons, I don't drink. I go to see and more importantly, hear the music, and the whole drinking experience at clubs never held any interest for me. So when I say that a band was great or boring when I have seen them, it is coming from a sober perspective.
I just think TV On The Radio is a bit pretentious, and for me, extremely uninteresting (Most Brooklyn Hipsters are). If you think they are a "great" live band, you apparently have not seen all that many live bands, I'll wager. If you like 'em, good for you. You are truly on the "cutting edge." But I've been around long enough to shrug off hype and word of mouth and form my own opinion and because I don't like this band doesn't mean I only want to hear covers. I simply want a band I feel will hold my interest and ear for 90 minutes and these guys are not the band. Sorry........

I'll admit, I'm kind of with Wade on this one as I guess I just don't "get" TV On The Radio. While my exposure has been very limited, nothing I've seen thus far has inspired me to delve deeper into this band. Maybe seeing a complete live performance would do it, but that will probably never happen unless I decide to stay an extra day @ LouFest. The Roots and Hold Steady, the same night there as TV here...no brainer for me. Oh well, can't like everybody.

Cons - There have been some complaints by people who claim that the shoe can be destroyed easily. This is seen after vigorous activity.
