My two favorite RUSH lp's:

'2112' and 'A Farewell To Kings'

If they ever did a tour while playing both these albums in their entirety (I do realize it's expecting a lot) many fans (like myself) would be wetting their knickers. It would be THE tour of the year. It's always nice to dream.

STONES RULE

And in more meaningful news....

The Rolling Stones announced today the online release of the famous Hampton roads concert from 1981. Anyone who has been keeping up knows that this show happened shortly after the Kansas City date, and is therefore is almost a bootleg of our show.

This is more/another release from the google music folks, you can find it on/at the android site.

jestsher

LOL, I thought about this a few days ago. I didn't think anyone else would remember. Thanks for the article. Rock On!

"There is unrest in the forest, their is trouble with the TREES, for the Maples want more sunlight and the Oaks ignore their pleas..." Definitely a song for the current times. Perhaps RUSH were visionaries????

Nivek9

Uh... I'm pretty sure Rush meant the year Two Thousand One Hundred and Twelve - 2112, rather than Two Thousand and Twelve - 2012. Believe me, the meek most certainly have not inherited the Earth...yet... Fun old record though. Still have my barcodeless vinyl copy of it from back in the day. Perhaps I'll give it a spin Thursday eve.

Tim Finn

but the date is 2/1/12

joe

I guess it all depends on how you look at it. I have no idea what Rush's intent was, but it always read like the year 2112 to me vs the day, 2/1/12.

Nivek9

Ah... Wednesday it is then... my bad... trying to take a shortcut to Friday, can you blame me.

Big Joe

Who frickin cares what they meant! The day is 2/1/12 , the album is called 2112. Why can't Rush fans have a little fun!?

wadkc

"nerds, nerds, nerds, nerds"

(p.s.) I love 2112.

Pat

Every day is Rush day for me!

Elgin

I understand that the reason for this day is supposedly the 2112 album title, but if it's truly supposed to be "Prog Metal Day", I think Rush is a bit mediorcre compared to some other groups which might fit the description better. In my opinion, bands like Hawkwind, Amon Duul, and even King Crimson rank well ahead of Rush in both the progressive aspect and anything approaching "metal" (especially the first two).

onthemark

It may not qualify as prog metal, but whenever I hear the term 'prog rock' I always think of Emerson Lake and Palmer.

Fanfare for the Common Man anyone?

pellboy

I like Rush okay, especially 2112 and they definitely fall under prog rock genre, but I'm with Elgin, not only do other bands fit the prog metal moniker more, I'm of the opinion that the term metal shouldn't be used anywhere in the vicinity of Rush.

Halrwen

They did this in Europe last month on 2 1 12 (2nd of January 2012), they write dates different over there.

ps
Isnt it interesting that the only thing all countries on this miserable planet can agree on is the 24 hout clock. We all use a 24 hour clock, but all the other measurments.... from inches to meters to temperatures to languages to summer and winter and slant eyes and dark skin are differerent.

It is like we are on some type of alien reality TV show where they put all of us different types together to have conflict for their amusement (borrowed from S.P.)

pellboy

All use the same 24-hour clock, but isn't the rest of the world more on a military time-type reading?

Hawk

Just the military glorifying type of countrys.... hmmmm.... I guess based on that the U.S. should go to that too.

RB

I agree with "onthemark". When I think of the greatest prog rock bands ever I think of ELP & YES.

fiddler

EB... i agree with you and OTM as well. i was especially a huge ELP and Yes fan. oh, back in the days when it was all being invented... that said, never did get into Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, oft cited as one of the earliest progressive rock LPs/groups. but then, the genre quickly grew and the definition broadened along with it. rush definitely has it's place there, not so much "metal" imo.

Kilby

If we're going to celebrate Canadian Prog-Metal bands, someone needs to place a vote for VOIVOD. Always a good, underrated band.
