His U.S. tour opens in Atlanta, then goes north and east, west and south before ending in Jersey on May 2. No worries as Chicago, most of the midwest and the entire state of Texas are missing. Which there was something closer for me to hit on that first leg, but I'm confident he'll come thru because he owes us one and he rarely skips KC completely.

The official statement from management after the KC show scheduled for August 26, 2009 was cancelled reads, in part:
"Bruce and The Band deeply appreciate the understanding of our Kansas City audience and look forward to returning at the earliest opportunity."
This must not have been the earliest opportunity.
Posted by: Darrell | January 24, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Correction to my previous post - the cancelled date was October 26, 2009.
Posted by: Darrell | January 24, 2012 at 10:35 AM
as a recording artist, is springsteen still relevant? if Wrecking Ball on the whole is as good as the first cut, the answer is hell yes! from the one cut, i'm thinking it'll be alot better than Magic and more like The Rising.
Posted by: fiddler | January 24, 2012 at 11:20 AM
I notice there is a week off between Cleveland and San Jose. That would be a good time to work in a St Louis/KC/Denver trio of shows. And if that happens, I might have to hit all 3 of them!
Posted by: onthemark | January 24, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Agreed, fiddler. The first tune while still catchy like the first singles off Magic (Radio Nowhere) and Working On A Dream (title cut) seems to come from a darker place lyrically as I heard the whole album does. The song, Wrecking Ball, has actually been out for a while, released as a Record Store Day promotional single on vinyl. Ties into the demolition of what was one of his mainstay venues, the old Giants Stadium.
Posted by: pellboy | January 24, 2012 at 11:43 AM
That would be way cool, otm but I doubt that happens. Even The Boss needs some time off during a full-blown tour.
I'm guessing the fall leg will cover all the missed spots...Texas cities, Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, KC/St.L, Omaha and/or Tulsa, as well as missed west coast cities and maybe parts of Canada.
Posted by: pellboy | January 24, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Who cares? This old has been tours too much anyway. Dont woory geezers, he will sell tickets here sooner or later, just dont count on him actually showing up to play the show.
He has shown he does not care about his fans, and his fans are now showing him they dont care about him. His time has passed, he should hang it up, actually he is pretty much an oldies act at this point, so expect him to see sell tickets at the Missouri state and if he actually shows up all you old dudes can swoon and throw your jock straps up on stage as he plays his oldies.
Posted by: Jackie | January 24, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Very well said, Jackie. I really can't think of any artist that has a more strained, uncaring relationship with his fans than Springsteen does with his. And he's got one helluva nerve for squeezing out even more songs from his oldies-loving audience for new album material on his last four tours. What an ass-hole.
Posted by: pellboy | January 24, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Save your outrage PB. I knew it was only a matter of time before some variation of DT posted their usual crud.
I feel kind of sorry for them to be honest. And seeing how you are a long time Springsteen fan, I imagine you do too.
Posted by: onthemark | January 24, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Yeah, that's why I took a different approach and played along with the negativity although I'm guessing my sarcasm was probably lost on Jackie Troll.
Posted by: pellboy | January 24, 2012 at 01:50 PM
Thank you Pellboy. You always say it best.
Posted by: Musicgal | January 24, 2012 at 02:54 PM
I'm fine with KC getting a concert later in tour. It'll give the band a chance to work out how they're going to handle different songs without Clarence.
Bruce always brings his best every night, but since he had to cancel last time around, I'd except something extra special. No way I'm missing this one.
Posted by: Granimal | January 24, 2012 at 04:22 PM
Maybe he is holding out for Kanrocksas 2
Posted by: Green | January 24, 2012 at 05:42 PM
Holy smokes, he's playing Jazzfest? This just might be my year to go!
Posted by: NEW | January 25, 2012 at 10:57 AM
NEW, I was thinking about hitting it for the first time myself this year, but the Springsteen announcement may have clinched it.
Posted by: pellboy | January 25, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Old ass Springsqueen needs to hang it up. He is old, his crap is old, his schtick is old, half his band is now dead.
He is just mopping up as much money, while he can, from sentimental old fools who are willing to pay to see the same old sht show, and scream out "Boss" one more time.
Have fun at this snooze fest you old geezers.
Posted by: Jake | January 25, 2012 at 11:45 AM
Well, now that was real insightful.
Posted by: pellboy | January 25, 2012 at 11:58 AM
btw, here's the lineup for that Springsteen-headlined snooze fest...

Posted by: pellboy | January 25, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I always figured Jazzfest, along with Bonnaroo and Cochella was just a lame assed pussy mellow fest.
Posted by: NEW | January 25, 2012 at 12:29 PM
"I really can't think of any artist that has a more strained, uncaring relationship with his fans than Springsteen does with his."
Boy, I can: Lou Reed, who hasn't played here since a Memorial Hall show in 1989.
Posted by: Rick | January 25, 2012 at 02:23 PM
I have been skimming thru the line up for the New Orleans Jazzfest. Here are a few notables: Bonnie Raitt, Bruce & The ESB, Foo Fighters, Janelle Monae, Levon Helm Band, Little Anthony and the Imperials, My Morning Jacket, Steve Earle and The Dukes and Duchesses, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Palmetto Bug Stompers. Don't know anything about that last band, but I sure dig the name!
Posted by: onthemark | January 25, 2012 at 02:27 PM
They dont allow pussy ass mellow fests in New Orleans, that seems to be the domain of KC and Arkansas wakapussyiafest, and where have you guys been, Jazz fest was announced a month ago.
So is Springsqueen gonna be pimping his buddy Obama again? talking politics? Cuz there is nothing better than than some spoiled, rich, faking it, rock douche telling us who to vote for. Springsqueen and Bono a couple of ass clowns.
The secret to success in show biz is sincerity, and when they can fake that, they have it made, just like Springsqueen has been milking his "working man", "common man" schtick for years.
Do you have any idea how much he makes per night? He is faaaaaaaaaar from a common man, but he sure puts on a good front.
Guess as long as geeezers will pay him, he will take their money, he put on the act.
Posted by: Palmer | January 25, 2012 at 04:38 PM
So are you going to Jazzfest then, DT?
Posted by: NEW | January 25, 2012 at 05:08 PM
Hey palmer, DT, whatever your FREAKING name is... I could care less if you like Springsteen's music or politics or anything about him. But you need to get a FREAKING clue about where Bruce came from and what he believes in and what he does. It's not his fault that his talent and hard work brought his music to millions and he earned a sizeable fortune from that. This is America and he, you, me have the freedom to do so. He is a common man. That's what he was born into and lived 30 some odd years of his life as until his talent took over and he EARNED his fortune. There are countless charities that Bruce supports all over America and it is well known that he insists no publicity and no accolades as a result of his generosity. He is what he grew up as, a common man whose family had very little but a solid work ethic who has never lost touch with that even though he has EARNED millions. It doesn't bother me if you genuinely dislike his music or even his sermons he'll preach at his shows. I get that and to each their own. But don't take shots at his sincerity with me in the room. I won't let that go.
Posted by: Joe | January 25, 2012 at 09:14 PM
Hey pal, joey, as long as people in this room feel free to take pop shots and insult any artist they feel like, THEN ANYONE WILL DO THE SAME TO ANYONE. okey dokey?
Springsqueen is as fake as they come. His whole "working man" schtick is just an act. His whole "cares about fans" IS BS!! If he really cared about KC fans he would have started the tour HERE, he owes this town. Springqueen is nothing but a loser drug addict, as is his whole crew.
Clarence Clemons, God rest his soul, is the only one that was any good. Now that the big man is gone, it is all a fake act to make money.
Every year another tour, he is over exposed, over the hill and he should hang it up.
Springsqueen has been exposed as just another posing, spoiled, douchebag rock star... but you feel free to give him as much money as you want. I am sure he happy to take your money and buy another Lear jet, mansion or Rolls Royce.
Posted by: Palmer | January 26, 2012 at 05:57 AM
Please don't feed the trolls.
Posted by: onthemark | January 26, 2012 at 06:45 AM
I know. A weak moment...
Posted by: joe | January 26, 2012 at 10:20 AM
have to agree with joe in principle, for sure. everyone changes and what he was in the 70's, lucky to get a hearing from columbia, and who he is today may not be the same. he once said, (i paraphrase), 'i don't want to just be good, i want to be great.' he accomplished that and more.
now, palmer, you can go back to bashing all you want, but there are few, very few, artists who have had the impact springsteen has had. so, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Posted by: fiddler | January 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM
So DT, let me ask you something. How do you feel about the Stones and their excessive lifestyle over the decades? You know, the band that wrote "Salt of the Earth?" Why do you have a different view of them than Springsteen? I know that I'll kick myself for trying to have a rational debate with you but I thought I would give it a shot.
Posted by: NEW | January 26, 2012 at 11:52 AM
DT could not respond to that last post NEW. His mom was yelling at him to take out the trash.
Posted by: Bruce | January 26, 2012 at 12:45 PM
I think the DT and the Stones Rule troll are one and the same which makes me curious about NEW's question as well.
Aren't the Stones the ones who released an album exclusively through Best Buy? Talk about sellouts...
Posted by: Matt | January 26, 2012 at 12:55 PM
At the risk of wading into the deep end here... Someone's mentioned the Stones. There's a very good tribute band called 'Satisfaction' at Knuckleheads tonight (01/26) with the Matt Rea band opening up. Getting out to see me some Stonez tunes, for miles less than a mortgage payment!
Posted by: corky | January 26, 2012 at 02:52 PM
Stick to the point here girls.
Springsqueens's last chance was to make it up to KC by starting the tour here... he blew it.
You geezers can pay up, again, to go see this poser's clown show, and you can swoon and throw your jock straps on stage... just know he is laughing at you.
He knows he is over the hill. Hw knows his time is running out. He is doing a money grab this time around. What a whore.
Mark my words, in 5 years you will feel/say the same about this poser, Springsqueen. His time has passed, it is time for him to hang it up.
R.I.P. Clarence
If they had any class, they would have broken up the band after he passed, but NOPE... SPRINGSQUEEN IS TOO MUCH OF A MONEY GRUBBER FOR THAT.
It is disgusting.
You go to his show, and come back and tell us how it sounded without the Big Man, yeah, lie to yourself.
Posted by: Palmer | January 26, 2012 at 04:04 PM
PS
Thanks Corky for that tip, apprecaite it, even if that has been on the agenda for a while... it should be fun. Sometimes these tribute bands try harder than the real bands.... and as you said.... for a lot less money.
Posted by: Palmer | January 26, 2012 at 04:09 PM
If you ever left OP or wherever you live, DT, you would quickly find out that the world does not revolve around Kansas City. For most touring bands, it is nothing more than a gas stop.
Nice job avoiding my question. Everything you said about Springsteen could easily apply to the Stones and you know it (who by the way don't even bother coming to KC anymore). I look forward to similar comments from you when they announce their next US Tour.
Posted by: NEW | January 26, 2012 at 04:23 PM
With the exception of Tom Joad, I own copies of all of Springsteen's studio CD's and have been to a handful of his shows - but whoever thinks the new Springsteen single is 'catchy' needs to put down the bong. The lyrics are uninspired and have no depth, and the melody has no heart. And it's been that way with Springsteen's materials for years. IMO, his glory days are long gone.
I still listen to his old stuff frequently, but Springsteen hasn't written a decent lyric since Born In The USA was released more than 25 years ago.
My days of going to Springsteen shows ended with his last show in KC. He took the stage more than an hour late, and his performance felt fake and disingenous. I've recently latched on to a number of bootlegs of his shows from the 70's and 80's and that's how I'm likely going to get my Springsteen fix for the foreseeable future.
Posted by: Hamster | January 26, 2012 at 05:12 PM
Yeah and you're probably not as good at your job or other stuff as you were 20 years ago either. Look, it's all opinion and tunefully speaking, I think the new single is catchy and while I'll agree that his best work is behind him, I'll stop way short of saying everything he's done in recent years is uninspired. At best, his recent albums are better than alot of what artists his age or even younger are putting out, at worst they've been a pretty uneven lot with some good stuff mixed with some lesser material.
With that said, his concerts are still stellar. And Palmer, why do you even care about his tour and when it stops here since it's pretty obvious you're not a fan? I think it's ridiculous to say that he should have started his tour here when he's playing nowhere near this part of the country during that leg. You obviously know nothing about the logsitics that go into a major rock tour. Jeezuz, it was just a cancelled gig, so what if some folks paid for a babysitter or god forbid drove downtown from Johnson County when they didn't have to. An unfortunate inconvenience, not a big fuck you to his fans like Ryan Adams, Michelle Shocked and some others have been guilty of in the past. We all (well apparently not all) got over it and moved on with our lives. We all got our tickets refunded immediately and outside of the gasp, $ spent by some on chicken wings at the P&L, Springsteen owes us nothing except another show in KC which I'm confident he'll provide.
Posted by: pellboy | January 27, 2012 at 08:22 AM
Spot on Pellboy. Couldn't have said it any beter.
Posted by: joe | January 27, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Well said Pellboy. Different strokes and all that, right? My experience has been that I have almost never liked a new Springsteen album when it came out. And that goes all the way back to ‘Darkness’! I am expecting to hear one sound and I get something totally different. Of course, with repeated listens I come around. Happens every time.
As for Palmer/DT, let’s review his post on Bruce: He is a rock star poser, a fake preachy money grubbing drug addict who buys Lear jets, Rolls Royce’s and mansions. I think even the most casual observer will admit he has researched his target of scorn in depth. I mean, he nailed it didn’t he?
Which makes you wonder how is it that Bruce can continue to sell out stadiums around the world in a matter of minutes, sell millions of albums, keep racking up Grammy awards along with accolades from all the music press, and is genuinely respected and admired by the music industry and fans worldwide.
But give the troll credit, he knows how to generate some responses!
Posted by: onthemark | January 27, 2012 at 12:38 PM
"But give the troll credit, he knows how to generate some responses!"
Yeah and I always hate myself later for feeding in. While I'll admit I'm huge fan and even somewhat of an apologist for the man, I actually can understand and even appreciate valid criticisms of his music such as Hamster's. Just get sick and tired of the same old, completely offbase takes from the likes of the Troll(s). Yeah, he'll fire back with his "my opinion" mantra, but is it really even a legitimate, adult opinion on anything or is it just the blogosphere version of the playground jeer "oh yeah...!"
Posted by: pellboy | January 27, 2012 at 12:52 PM
OH YEAH? REALLY? HUH?
lol, guilty pleasures are the best, but always casue some self hate afterwards...
say, that reminds me, it may be time again to call up "bad red".
She is always fun/hot/mean as fk, but always a good time, until it turns ugly, and it always does... then I swear I am done with her forever, until the memory fades and bruises heal.
note to self- buy more tequlia.
anyway...... yeah hamster nailed it on this one springsqueen sucks... and has for a long time.
And anyone wanting to bable "big tour" logistics... take al ook at this tour... it easily could have started here... to st louie.. down to x,y and z... THEN on to lanta... and tar heel cuntry... FK SPRINGSQUEEN!!!
Posted by: Palmer | January 27, 2012 at 01:16 PM
Why does starting a tour somewhere make that much of a difference in the grand scheme? To me, the tour is an inclusive thing. First, last, middle, when it's all over, all that matters is if he made the stop in KC. He will and he'll give us a show for the ages. Pellboy, I'm again with you regarding hamster's ( or anyone else's) legitimate criticism of Bruce and his music. I get that. When I was younger, I wasn't that way. I was certain that no matter what, any human being who went to see Bruce live would walk out a changed person. I still believe many of his early shows had that effect on nearly everyone in the audience. It was something to see and there was no way to describe it properly to anyone who didn't see it. But, as time goes by and you gain perspective, you realize that Bruce isn't for everyone -- and it is OK.
Posted by: joe | January 27, 2012 at 01:30 PM
"note to self- buy more tequlia."
Well, good to see you're getting an early start today, but what the hell, it is Friday. I'm actually jealous.
Posted by: pellboy | January 27, 2012 at 01:34 PM
Springsqueen is like Journey, some people like that type of fluff stuff, some dont.
As far starting the tour here? Why? BECAUSE HE OWES KC. He said he would make it up to us for canceling, but like most hollow promises he let us down, again.
I watched this to see, I would have been impressed if he took care of us, made it up to us. Id' have been there, I wouldnt have written what I worte.
KC gets kicked too much, it would just be nice to see someone follow through on a promise, just once.
sigh, oh well, again I am the guy saying things to hopefully make change... hope. faith. optimism... maybe springsqueen will read this and know in his heart that this was a scumbag move... feel guilty.... and tomorrow he will announce a special gig here...
THEN WHAT WILL YOU SAY TO ME?
OK everybody sing...
ITS FRIDAY, ITS FRIDAY... EVERYONE GET DRUNK ON FRIDAY...
;) bruce is like journey... heheheehe, thats a good one ;)
