Writers, judges joust to the death, metaphorically

Several celebrities have participated in some Literary Death Matches, like author Chuck Palahniuk (“Fight Club”), who judged one in Austin, Texas, recently. The third Kansas City version of Literary Death Match is Tuesday  at the Firefly Lounge, 4118 Pennsylvania. Doors open at 7 p.m. The event starts at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The Literary Death Match was conceived in New York almost six years ago by writers tired of the same-old at public readings.

George Strait: The low-down on the re-do

Here's the official word from the Sprint Center. George Strait will perform Saturday, March 3, at the Sprint Center. Martina McBride will open at 7:30 p.m. All tickets from the Feb. 25 show at the Sprint Center will be honored at the rescheduled show. Also: If you can't attend the makeup show, you can return your tickets at the same place you bought them. 

Strait postpones show after two songs

Country singer George Strait postponed his concert at the Sprint Center on Saturday night, telling his crowd of about 18,000 that he was too sick to go on. About 9:15 p.m,. as the P.A. system played "Deep in the Heart of Texas," Strait took the stage and strapped on his guitar. He then sang "Here for a Good Time," though clearly he was not.

Springsteen to take over 'Fallon'

Straight from the maw of the PR machine, regarding next week's shows:" 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' will honor Bruce Springsteen with a weeklong musical tribute Monday through Friday (11:35 p.m. on Channel 41/NBC) to celebrate the launch of his new album, "Wrecking Ball," which will be released on Columbia Records March 6. The band featuring Spider One, Rob Zombie's younger brother, will be in town on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Beaumont Club. Also on the bill: Swill, Syn City Cowboys, and Razorwire Halo. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 10.
