I saw Def Leppard in December '87 at Kemper Arena with Tesla. It was an in the round set up and one of the loudest shows that I've been to. They had a great production also and only the second in the round show that I've seen. The second was Phil Collins.
I saw Poison open for David Lee Roth at Kemper Arena and thought that they weren't that good.
I was talked into seeing Poison at Municipal Auditorium and again thought that they blew and regret going to it.
If I go to Def Leppard this time than, I'm going to have to miss Poison.

Kurt, dont miss Lita, or you will regret it.
Posted by: Ford | March 27, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Impressive lineup of shows so far. Certainly doesn't bother me none that Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Steve Miller and other oldies acts aren't passing thru this summer.
Posted by: pellboy | March 28, 2012 at 08:25 AM
Glad it doesn't bother you PB. We've all been on the edge of our seats wondering how you we going to feel.

Merle Haggard at Knuckleheads! I wonder what the ticket price will be for that show?
Posted by: onthemark | March 28, 2012 at 10:23 AM
I saw Def Leppard in December '87 at BSU Pavilion in Boise, ID with Tesla.
It was a pretty great show with Def Leppard arguably at the top of their game. I doubt the 2012 tour will match that one.
I, for one, want to see Taj Mahal Trio @ Knuckleheads!!
Posted by: KC Jones | March 28, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Buddy Guy was $50. I'd expect about the same. I know Frank was nervous about selling enough tickets due to cover the fee charged by Buddy. I'm sure Merle Haggard is not too cheap either.

The D at the Uptown! Woo Hoo. That should be fun. I get to finally hear them at a place with a decent PA. They were at Municipal Auditorium a while back and you couldn't understand them because of the echo in the place.

KC, if a fan of Taj, you might be interested to know that his sometimes backing band, the Phantom Blues Band w/ Mike Finnigan will be playing a FREE show at Frontier Park in Olathe on Friday, July 20th.
Posted by: pellboy | March 28, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Taj is playing tonite at the Hendrix tribute as well.

I am going to see Weir, Robinson and Greene Acoustic show. I know Chris Robinson said in a article years ago that Jerry Garcia was one of his heroes. I always loved the Black Crowes. Should be an interesting show.
Posted by: Steve | March 28, 2012 at 11:17 AM
I'm also down with that Acoustic Trio show, as a big fan of all three artists. Others I'm considering from that list if time and funds allow...
JJ Grey & MOFRO
Band of Heathens
The Flatlanders
The Lowrider Band w/ Jimmy Thackery
Rev.Heat, Lucero & Mountain Sprout

Thinking about seeing Tenacious D, although it would have been a cooler show a decade or so ago.

Brief review of the 'Soul Salvation' show last night. I saw Tim there, so a full review will be up at some point.
Great show last night. Outdoor show, pretty well packed. Might have been the earliest outdoor show in Knucklehead's history!
Paul Thorn opened right at 8:00, solo acoustic. Told lots of funny stories and covered a wide range of his songs. Did a few from an upcoming album due out May 8th. He did a 45 minute set, as always very entertaining!
Ruthie Foster came on at 9:00, backed by bass, drums and keyboard. She played acoustic guitar. Wow, what a performance! She has a great voice and put on a very upbeat show that was based in blues, rock, funk and gospel. Very well done, both the wife and I came away very impressed, we will definitely see her again! She played for just under 90 minutes.
Unfortunately, while the crowd was hushed throughout Paul’s set the same was not true for Ruthie. Way too much chatter from the crowd. Very distracting. Why people pay to see a performer then yak non-stop throughout their performance escapes me.
Very nice night, got a brief bit of rain about 15 minutes before the end of the show. All in all a great night of live music!

Definitely make the effort to see Band of Heathens, PB. I saw them a couple of weeks ago at Quixotes in Denver. For $12 plus another $8 for a couple of beers at Knucks, you won't regret it.
Posted by: NEW | March 29, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Glad you see your comments, otm. Yes, it was a great night and the weather gods were very cooperative--a huge relief.
Paul is always entertaining, and this is the first time seeing him do a solo acoustic show. In talking to him after the show, we told him he needs to come back this summer with his band and he said he would. Very nice and friendly guy.
Also loved Ruthie's set. She did covers of Adele and Los Lobos, among others. Very eclectic! I didn't notice the conversations as much, but we were pretty close to the stage.
And last night's show marked the debut of a brand new sound system for the outdoor stage. It sounded terrific!
Posted by: kcmom | March 29, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Yeah, NEW, discovered them on TV a couple of years ago when they opened a show for somebody (Elvis Costello?) on ACL and have
been into their music ever since. Unfortunately missed two opportunities (Knucks and Paola Roots Festival) to see them live locally last year and heard great things about both shows. I won't miss this one as I plan on grabbing a ticket on Saturday. As said, certainly can't beat that price.
Posted by: pellboy | March 29, 2012 at 12:11 PM
kcmom, how about that cover by Ruthie of 'Ring of Fire'?
Posted by: onthemark | March 29, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Very interesting!
Posted by: kcmom | March 29, 2012 at 12:43 PM
NEW -- Is this one I need to look into seeing as well? Fill me in this weekend...
Posted by: joe | March 29, 2012 at 02:04 PM
If you are referring to Band of Heathens, that show is April 21st.
Posted by: kcmom | March 29, 2012 at 02:41 PM
Outdoor shows are already starting at Knuckleheads.....I always love that. As much as I enjoy most any show at that place on ANY of their three stages, to see a show on the outdoor stage on an evening with good weather is one of KC's true joys. I'm now curious to experience the new sound system! Ah, Spring......
Posted by: Geordan | March 29, 2012 at 04:16 PM
I think so Joe. BoHs sound is reminiscent of most stuff we like. I would equate them to a cross between the Band and the Bottlerockets. Fair assessment, PB?
Posted by: NEW | March 29, 2012 at 05:12 PM
What do you think of the Madonna show selling so well? I've checked the SC website and they only have the $355 tickets left.
Posted by: Kurt | March 30, 2012 at 03:47 PM
They were at Municipal Auditorium a while back and you couldn't understand them because of the echo in the place.

Yeah, NEW, I'd even throw in that BoH have sort of a soul/r&b groove to their sound as well.
