My Morning Jacket is coming to Starlight Theatre on Aug. 6, a Monday. Support: Band of Horses. Tickets on sale at 11 a.m. Saturday.
This is a great double-bill. Both stellar live acts with My Morning Jacket being one of the best live rock bands touring today. I can't wait.

Neither band's recorded work does a whole lot for me (MMJ is very hit or miss, BoH even much less so), but since I keep hearing that seeing MMJ live is the next best thing to a rock & roll hummer, I might have to breakdown and see this one, especially since it's at Starlight. Wish it was Band of HEATHENS instead of Horses though.

pellboy, I have a boot from that last Band of Heathens show at Knuckleheads. I will burn a copy for you and Geordan for next time I see you guys.

pellboy, MMJ are very hit or miss recently with their last two albums, but check out this live video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g1QXrXSiJI

Yeah, that was pretty good, they can definitely jam. I like my jammy stuff to groove a little more, but that said, they can bring it. Still wavering though as not super familiar with all their music and consequently, might actually get, crazy I know, bored by the jams. For the most part, extended jams only work for me when they that heavy percussive, danceable groove behind them.
Ultimately, even though I like their recorded work more than MMJ's, much like Wilco (once was enough), they're the kind of top band from this current era that I probably should see at least once.

I've seen MMJ about a half dozen times now and I've never really thought of them as jammy. In fact, I despise most "jam bands". They do occasionally extended the end of songs longer than the recorded version, but it's never more than a minute or two. No endless jams like you get with the hippie music set.

caught MMJ last year in Austin (wasn't a big fan going in) and they were absolutely awesome. This show is a can't miss.
