Ted

Maybe we need an Orpheum Theatre?
YES !!! YES !!! YES !!! OH YESSS!!!!!
(to quote Sally)(When Harry met Sally)

They should build one where the Crossroads KC currently is mainly so we end that conversation... it is all up the dump.... YOUR MOVE DUMP!

PS
You might post JB ticket prices in this article.

ptgkc

Who needs a Orpheum when you have a Grinders?

We just need a few more wood chips to put us over the top.

Nathan

Yeah, yeah, and maybe a few rats running around. That would make some people they are ubercool for being there.

The local hipsters could say
"Derp, We are soOoOoOoO cooooooool, we louououove going to see shows at a rat infested crap holes that have smelly, overflowing porta potties, and to be extra UBE Rhip, there is no running water, or anything, for simple sanitary conditions, man are we cool, OR WHAT?"
"and best of all we pay sixty to eighty dollars per ticket, we are sooooo coooooool"

KC Hipsters are so hip and cool.

wadkc

Not if I have to go see Jackson Browne and his merry band of Prius's.

Kurt

St. Louis is larger than, KC but, KC is larger than, both Wichita and Omaha. I may have to go to Rush in St. Louis on Sept 22nd if they don't bring tour here. They are at the Scottrade Center and never been to it before.

onthemark

I saw Jackson Browne in concert a couple of times. First time was at Summer Jam 78, along with Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles. I think that was his 'Running On Empty' tour. Man, that has been a while ago!

Just da facts

"St. Louis is larger than, KC"

Not true, my friend. Per the 2010 census, KC has St. Louie beat by about 100,000 people and if you are going by the populace of both cities' metropolitan areas, we still beat St. Louis. Ya hear that St. Louis is bigger all the time and it just ain't true......

As for Jackson Browne, what's wrong with The Midland??

NEW

Sorry JDF, but you are way off base there:

http://geography.about.com/od/lists/a/csa2005.htm

Kurt

I've checked the 2012 almanac and they had 2010 population data. The city proper of Kansas City is larger than, St. Louis. The metro area data is a different story and St. Louis has 2.8 million and Kansas City has 2 million. They have many more suburbs than, we have by far.

Facts

Yeah, but St Louie sucks. wichita is not much better, but I have not spend enough time there to really know..... but...

I would rather spend a month of Sundays wollowing around on the wood chips of the dump while getting struck by lightning, than spend more than 48 hours in St Louis.

I have ventured to crappy St Louie on several occasions (from the 85 WS, to the Stones live show) and every time that stupid fk city, and its stupid fk pigpeople mess it up... it is mostly the people from there... lmao at them...... but alas, there is nothing to be done to improve st louie or its people, they are beyond hope, so you wont read repetitivie posts from me of that shittystlouie, there is nothing to be done, why rant?

joe

Facts, I agree with you about the people I have encountered from St. Louis. Typically, they are Cardinal fans that still can't let go of 1985. But, I digress. As much as I dislike the city and most of the people, The Pageant in St. Louis is one cool venue. Seen Richard Thompson and Wilco there and both shows were outstanding. Great sight lines, Clean bathrooms ( there you go DT ) and wonderful acoustics. One of the better sounding rooms I have been in lately.

Facts

Right on Joe,

Sometimes trips to/through stlouie are unavoidable, and it usually OK as long as one treats it like "Escape from St Louie" where Snake Plisken has a 47 hour timer watch to get the hell out of town before being dragged down by...

ps
yeah, most moronic red bird fans are unworthy of comments by me, maybe a chuckle or an lol (not even in all caps) but not a full comment.

lol.

ps
did you know parts of "Escape from New York" were actually filmed in stlouie? True story, they found plenty of "as is" locations of burned up, garbage dump looking, crossroadsKC type of craphole areas that they just filmed there.... e.g the Presidnts plane crash scene was filmed in the dump city.

PS
If I have offended any stlouie lovers, allow me to apologize...
I am sorry, and I regret that I could not have been even more insulting to your dump of a city, but we have to try to keep it civil here.

joe

My daughter attends a private university here in KC MO and she used to think I was rather silly about my bias against MOST St Louis people. But the school she goes to has a significant percentage of students from St. Louis and after two years, she is firmly on my side and readily admits that I was spot on in my general assessment.

Green

I didn't like the Pageant, maybe I should say I didn't love the Pageant. It was nice, it was clean, site lines were great (great if you are in the back, not so great if you are in the front) and the bar/restaurant was a nice touch but I didn't think the sound was good, the sound really bounces on the concrete and all the metal up above. I will take Kansas City's Uptown any day!

onthemark

Kurt, in answer to your inquiry I have been to the Scottrade Center, although to be technical it was known as the Savvis Center when I saw Springsteen and the ESB there Labor Day weekend 2002. That was his tour for 'The Rising'. Sound was fine for an arena, and it goes without saying the concert kicked ass! Followed that up by watching MIZZOU spank Illinois the next day at the Dome, which was also the first college game for a QB named Brad Smith. So, yeah, that was a good weekend!

And Joe, wern't you also at the Fox Theater in StL to see Bruce on his solo 'Devils & Dust' tour in August 2005? That is a very nice venue as well. Very ornate. As for the sound, it was really good from my seat 4th row center. Yeah, I am bragging, but that is the closest I ever got for a Bruce concert!

kmoon

I'll be there for that - whenever & whereever!

Facts

Damn it!!! sure..... wait until I have used up all of my daily allocation of ranting points before bringing up Bruce. I love to bash on on that guy, but.... oh well, maybe after Midnight, I can let it all hang out.

PS
Just in case no one noticed I am a KC loving muthafkr, Dont mess with my town (and it goes from Allen Field House to Kauffman Stadium up to KCI to down to bumfk South JOCO (where all the hot MILFS seem to hang out)

Sure I maybe coulda shoulda maybeouta move somewhere else, but... KC is home.

Note to self-(no, not Bill Self)(note to me) always be sure to hold back some daily ranting allocation points just in case someone brings up Bruce late in the day.

ps
propur speling iz "Snake Plissken"

joe

OTM, No I wasn't at the St. Louise Devils and Dust show. Our mutual friend went with another buddy of ours.

BTW, Facts... I know full well of your dislike for all things Bruce and I have no problem with your stance. But, for the record, at 62, last Sunday, Bruce did play a 3 hour and 48 minute show with no intermission. For the amount of energy he expends in his shows, to go nearly four hours with no break is worthy of respect.

F

Joe,
I would like to reply, but I am out of ranting allocation points for today.

Dang it!!!
NEWMAN!!!!

Scorp

Scottrade is nice arena, saw Sprongsteen there in '08 and '09. A lot of people say the '08 show was the best show of the Magic tour, I wouldn't disagree.
I recorded a few youtubes that night,
here's the opener

While I do hate Cards fans which I guess means most St.Louians, I've had nothing but good experiences in that city from The Who and countless Blues games at the old Arena/Checkerdome (one at Savvis Center) to some Cards games at the old Busch (okay, that stadium did blow) to NCAA regional games at the Dome w/ KU playing to Twangfest in Blueberry Hill, nothing but fun times for me. Maybe because I'm not originally from KC but I just don't have the same animosity for St.Louis that most folks around here do. In fact, I actually like that town.

Geordan

"I just don't have the same animosity for St.Louis that most folks around here do. In fact, I actually like that town."

How DARE you, sir! Kidding, Pellboy....I've also had some good times in St. Louis and seen a handful of shows there (The Police at the old Checkerdome on the SYNCHRONICITY tour was a personal St. Louis favorite). Not to go off-topic, but as I couldn't make it, was wondering if anyone made it to Knuckleheads for The Romantics gig this past Monday. If so, details, please......

pellboy

Huh, I was going to ask you the same thing as I thought for sure you were going to make it down there. I'm in for The Beat though next Monday. See you there?

Geordan

Unfortunately, no can do for next Monday, Pellboy. For work-related reasons, it's the one night of the week that making shows is next to impossible. I was excited for both The Romantics and English Beat shows for a few seconds, but once I saw they were on Monday, I knew I'd probably have to miss them. Kinda wish the promoter and Knuckleheads had worked out a deal to bring them in together as originally planned, and had it been in the middle of the week or weekend, they could have sold a bunch of tickets. As much as I was wondering about The Romantics show, I was also curious how many turned up for it. That said, I am going to see Steve Martin and his Bluegrass group at the Midland tonight. Should be interesting......

Geordan

Not sure if there will be a review from the Star, but the aforementioned show by Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers last night at The Midland, was really good. I was skeptical when I first heard that Steve was touring with a Bluegrass band (I missed their show here last year), as Bluegrass can be a hard sell, although I like it quite a bit. But the concert, which lasted an hour and 40 minutes, encore included, was like an old-school variety show. In between songs, Steve brought the humor and it made for a really fun show and The Steep Canyon Rangers are top-shelf Bluegrass musicians.

There was no opening act, but as the show was a charitable event, there was lots of food provided by Bo Lings, Danny Edwards BBQ, Blue Grotto in Brookside, Maker's Mark Bourbon House & Lounge, and a few others, I wasn't shy about grabbing some. But the show was wonderful in that Steve compliments The Steep Canyon Rangers, already a band before Steve came on board, and vice versa. The Steep Canyon Rangers would be right at home on Knuckleheads stage and the two songs they performed last night without Steve were highlights of the show. But Martin's humor truly made this a fine night out.
