Umphrey's McGee played an incredible show last night. THey are one of the best bands that ever comes here to KC. Where's the review?

onthemark

I had this show on my radar as a possibility. Nice that Crossroads made the pre-emptive call out of concern for both the bands and their patrons. Class act.

913KCKKID

Crossroads? Concerned about the bands and patrons? That is HILARIOUS!

onthemark

Go ahead and laugh. That is two shows postponed/canceled in the last week due to weather, right?

DT

This would not be a problem if the show was at any number of other REAL venues in KC. When will people quit acting like (quit suking the ckc's cok) the dump is a good place for shows. GET REAL!!! IT SUCKS!!! HARD!!!

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO CLOSE THIS DUMP?! Does Kansas City even use inspectors any more?

onthemark

No reason to close it, the venue is fine as is. Typically outdoor venues do not have a roof and as such are subject to the weather. In this case they made the right call and canceled the show. Good business practice.

Sin City Disciple

It reads to me that this has more to do with Mr. McCoury and his crew being able to travel... than the evil, soul f#cking, baby punching, mother hating, fan screwing, bulk mulch buying capitalist pigs @ Crossroads. Hate on haters.

Country Jesus

I am very disappointed in the posters on this blog. I had to read through 2 ENTIRE posts before I read a negative post about the Crossroads. I expect better than that you Crossroads naysayers. The first post on here should totally slam crossroads. I wouldn't mind seeing someone slam the crossroads on every post - related or unrelated - because it never gets tiresome....now go punch a baby

Corky

Any word on whether the Journey/Loverboy/Pat Benatar show at Sandstone is being cancelled as well?

As a former season ticket holder out there, I've spent more than enough wet evenings waiting for rain-delayed shows. Caught a great Pearl Jam set, but it was several hours late AND pretty short in length as well.

Anyone else here see Merle Haggard?

DT

SCD and CJ you made me laugh out loud! Really.

Funny stuff men, funny stuff!

Here is hoping you both have drinks bought for you all night, all weekend... and I cant even tell if you were serious... or waht... but at least you have senses of humor :)

DT

Now everyone go out and howl at the blue moon... HOOOOOWWWWWLLLL!!!!

Green

I think this weeks cancellations had a lot to do with ticket sales, although tonight's could weigh heavily with the riders on the storm, much love for any band hitting the road today and working all of us over for a few bucks. Something tells me if there we're 1000 plus tickets sold, crossroads would be rocking to some wet music right about now. It's all part of the business, any outdoor venue knows the gable as do the bands. I say keep the show going and get out and enjoy the rain, it's been months since we had a good down poor, what better way to celebrate than to drink some beer and listen to music! I am Green and I support Crossroads!

Aaron

I love how people bitch about the weather at crossroads. Name me one outdoor venue in Kansas City that has covered seats. Oh wait, there isn't one.

Sam

You miss the point Aaron. Most out door venues are very very large and that is why they are out doors. They is no legit reason (besides being money grubbers and maximizing profit) for a small venue to be outside, without a roof and proper facilities (e.g. running water, proper bathrooms).

Every show booked at Crossroads KC should be booked at a REAL venue like Midland, VooDoo, Uptown etc etc etc (all have walls, roofs, A/C, heat, real toilets, running water etc etc etc).

There is no (customer) reason for Crossroads KC to exist. It is a dump. It resembles a horse corral from 1905 (including using outhouses for toilets).

The owner/promoter of Crossroads KC are just slime balls who want to make as much money as possible, without regard or care for paying customers. period.

It is beyond me (except for working for them or getting free tickets) why anyone here supports them.

And anyone getting tired of posts regarding what a dump the dump is should consider how tired others are of Crossroads KC still being in business.

K

Another factor to cancel or postpone due to rain is the performers safety, covered stage or not. Water and electricity do not mix (obviously) and there would be plenty of both. Just a fair gust of wind could likely bring some water onto a covered stage.
However it seems like every video I see of a large music festival in England such as Glastonbury, it's raining.

onthemark

You miss the point Sam. Crossroads is a legitimate music venue and business. And the point of being in business is to provide a service and make a profit, correct?

Now, we all now you have a bone to pick with them, but stating your opinion as fact is wrong. It is your OPINION, and I for one disagree with you. It is not a dump, it is an outdoor arena in the city. And outdoor arenas do NOT have a roof or walls, or heating or A/C. That is the whole point of it being outdoors, right?

As always, you are free to take your business elsewhere if you do not like the place. But if a band that I want to see is playing there I will go and enjoy myself. I have done it in the past and I will continue to do so in the future.

CKC Mgmt

Thank you for your continuing support onthemark, your name is on the list, as usual, and next time you come down your first drink is free.

onthemark

Good one DT, that made me laugh!

Larry

Sam, a horse corral from 1905? Now THAT'S FUNNY! I don't care for the Crossroads either - but then again they so RARELY have band(s) that I'm even remotely interested in seeing. I'm glad that I didn't bother with JOURNEY last night at Livestrong as I simply don't like having to stand in the rain.

Green

Onthemark you better share that beer!

I'm green and I support the crossroads!

Dave

I am curious if they are going to reschedule this show because I love Del and haven't seen him in a while.

I don't have any complaints about Crossroads; I see about 4 shows there a year. It's two hours out of my life so I can stand on woodchips for that long.

My only consistent complaint about all live venues is the FANS WHO WON'T SHUT UP. Please go gab down at Power and Light bars and stop talking over every freaking song. I honestly would rather breathe someone's 2nd hand smoke rather than have their stupid conversation cluttering up the music. Sing off key if you want, hell even yell dumb requests in between songs, just stop talking about your effing cats or boy/girlfriend while the band is performing.

Thanks for letting me vent. Hope they reschedule Del!!

pellboy

Except for those ticketed fans disappointment in missing a show they wanted to see, I don't any problem with a weather (or otherwise) related cancellation well before the show took place. From my perspective, rather that than taking a chance in dealing with the weather and/or the possibility of a last minute cancellation or shortened set. Unless traveling in for the show (in this case, highly doubtful than anybody was coming in from a great distance), what was the incovenience or "problem" here?

You got your Phish review last week, kmoon. Consider yourself lucky that you even got that in this blog.
