Corky

Tim,

I'm seeing Johnny Winter at Knuck's on this list (he usually does play there) but I'm thinking he's actually playing the VooDoo instead.

Can you check that out?

Bewlay

VooDoo is right, 90.9 the Bridge is giving away tickets for that show.

Steve J

I don't like "folk", so what's the big deal about the Lumineers. Ho Hey seems to be a hit, but is just awful (to me).

Green

09/24: the Lumineers at Liberty Hall (very sold out) Haha, I like the very! Is this a hot ticket right now?

Green

Due to circumstances beyond the control of the band and promoter, The Jayhawks show on Oct 12 at Crossroads-KC has unfortunately been canceled. Refunds will be available at point of sale.

BrainOfJHA

Gotye has been moved to Crossroads

Kurt

Rush started their Clockwork Angels tour in Manchester,NH yesterday. The Rush website said that more shows are to be announced. I hope that Rush will be at the Sprint Center and not Starlight again. Their last arena show in KC was on the Counterparts tour in 1994.

9/11 at the Record Bar is Negative Approach. They're one of those really old-school hardcore punk bands from back in the early 80's, so that's pretty cool.

mankvill

Oh, I forgot that I'm the metal guy:

9/11 - Negative Approach @ Record Bar
9/13 - Katatonia & Devin Townsend Project w/ Paradise Lost, Stolen Babies @ Granada
9/16 - Kreator & Accept w/ Swallow The Sun, Hellevate @ Beaumont
9/16 - Pallbearer w/ Royal Thunder @ Jackpot
9/19 - Trash Talk @ Jackpot (Odd Future afterparty)
9/27 - Nightwish w/ Kamelot @ Beaumont

Lots of good heavy shows coming our way throughout the rest of the year. :D Check my blog, bro

ZZ Ward is next Saturday night and I have to work argh! Can someone go and report? She's great live.

Steve J

I thought it was a joke about Goyte moving to the Crossroads until I heard it on the radio. How can anyone underestimate the paid attendance by that much?

michael

I saw a great concert at Starlight last night, Hall and Oates, oldies to be sure, but goodies none the less, top of the chart performers for decades, turned in a fantastic performance, two encores, not a non-hit song in the list. Anything about this in The Star? A photo followed by one sentence and the question, "What else did we miss?" Seriously? Isn't this paper supposed to be about informing the public, promoting Kansas City? Starlight was sold out last night. Great venue, great concert, and I'm not particularly a Hall and Oates fan, but good grief Star...get off your ass and cover something for a change instead of phoning in the usual political one-sidedness and continual late night east side shooting.

Professor

Good grief michael are you as upset at People magazine for their lack of journalistic integrity....the star has been neutered to the point of being a daily pamphlet w/ easily digested sound bites and wire pieces. Why don't you pick up your pen and write a review of what you saw right here, instead of waiting for someone to acknowledge your poor taste in 80's pop music...........

Green

Would love a review michael, hook us up!

God Save The Rutles

Michael... once you're done goosestepping behind right-wing radio hosts have a seat and take a look... and your Hall & Oates review has been delivered.

Kurt

Saw on Pollstar that ZZ Top is at the Midland on October 16th.

pellboy

Heard the new album yet, Kurt? I guess it's been getting some pretty positive reviews for it's throwback sound which really interests me. Thinking about picking it up this week and certainly wouldn't mind hitting that show if the price is right.

Kurt

Pellboy,

Saw in the KC Star print that tickets are $55-$95 for ZZ Top and go on sale tomorrow.

pellboy

Damn, that's a little rich for my blood as I was hoping for a ticket somewhere in the $35 range. Still, considering that I've only previously seen them in arenas/stadiums, I might have to think hard about this. Might have to do some research and see what kind of sets they've been churning out on this tour as I really don't want to see just another run through of their hits. From what I've been hearing about the new album, I think I'd rather hear a heavy dose of new stuff.

Geordan

Going to see the lovely Cassie Taylor in the Gospel/Retro Lounge at Knuckleheads tonight. This will be my third time seeing her there this year and she puts on a fine show. When I first saw her with the Girls With Guitars tour last year (which included our own Samantha Fish), Cassie was quiet, more than a bit withdrawn, and didn't smile once during there set, prompting an audience member to yell out, "Smile, Cassie!"

The request was ignored and I thought Cassie seemed either arrogant, pissed off, or bored. Then I saw her solo and she was a totally different person. Funny, even charming on stage, and definitely talented. Cassie has a beautiful voice and plays some nice Bass and Keyboards and when she's feeling like it, can truly engage a crowd! Tonight should be another good (and inexpensive) show.

onthemark

Geordan, I may see you there tonight!

Speaking of Samantha Fish, I caught her show last Friday at the Mouse. That girl gets better every time I see her!

NEW

"That girl gets better every time I see her!"

From working hard to picking hte right mentors to getting herself out there, she's always done everything right, that's for sure.

onthemark

Walked into the Retro Lounge at 8:15, got a seat right in front of the stage. Cassie Taylor came on about 8:40, she did a couple of songs solo on keyboard before her band (guitar, drums) joined her and she strapped on a bass guitar. She is not hard to look at, not at all! And it appeared I was the only person in attendance who was taller than she was. I would say the crowd numbered just over about 3 dozen.

I had just got the ‘Girls With Guitars’ CD last week and after seeing Samantha Fish last Friday I felt like I should see Cassie as well. I am glad I did. She put on a really good show, 2 sets of about 30-40 minutes each. Good voice, a bit of a Norah Jones sound at times, a bit gruffer at times. She is mainly a blues artist with the occasional foray into a bit of a sultry pop sound. She did all of her own songs with the exception of a cover of ‘Hey Joe’ to close her first set

The main stage featured Jason Eady, I strolled in there and caught a couple of his songs during the break between sets. He sounded pretty good, another 3 piece, guitar, slide guitar and drums. Sort of a hybrid country/Americana sound. Not bad for what little I heard.

Cassie started off her second set again solo, this time playing bass guitar and singing. Which is actually a combination you rarely see. She sounded really good, and after a couple of songs her band joined her for a very entertaining set. They really amped up the rock vibe and it was hard to concentrate on Cassie because her guitar player was into full blown shred mode. Very tasty.

She finished up about 10:45 or so. I bought her CD ‘Blue’ and had her sign it.

So, $12 cover, two $3 beers and $10 for an autographed CD. All in all a pretty good night of live music.

As always, good to see my fellow B2R poster Geordan there!

Geordan

Yep, Cassie was pretty wonderful. Great to see you there, OTM! I loved the opening song, "Black Coffee." It's the song that has the smooth Norah Jones feel to it. The second song, "Haunted," was similar. Sweet soulful vocals accompanied by some nice piano work, although Cassie stopped and cringed after hitting an obvious sour note. But Cassie can also crank it up when she needs to and you're right about her guitarist. That dude rocks! The "Hey Joe" cover was damn good. However, some drunk guy wondered into the Retro Lounge during the song, stood alarming close to the band, who were playing the song while sitting at the front of the stage, and then let out a loud, "Yee Haaah!!" before the last notes of the song had faded out. He then went right up to Cassie to tell her how $#@%ing awesome she is, oblivious to the crowd there watching the show.

I stuck around for some local group that played late and left around 11:30. To digress here, I had been having some mild chest pain for about a week and shortly after getting home from Knuckleheads last night, I began feeling some sharp pain and ended up going to the Emergency Room at 1 AM. Thankfully, no heart trouble, but merely an inflammation of the lungs (for the guy who has never smoked a cigarette in his life). The Hospital released me and I drove home at around 4 AM with Morphine and some A-Grade muscle relaxer in my blood (Not the smartest thing I've ever done). So, I saw a good show last night, ended up in the hospital, and on three hours sleep, got up and made a dental appointment in which I was given a massive dose of Novocaine. Thankfully, I have today off and am currently staring at a few prescriptions I'm afraid to touch at this point. Long story short, I had a GREAT evening, but the rest of last night and this morning pretty much sucked.

pellboy

Wow, that's one crazy night you had, Geordan. Glad to hear you're okay.

btw, anybody else in for the Victor Wainwright/Debbie Davies/Anthony Gomes triple @ Knuckleheads tomorrow night? I'm thinking about it, great value show right there.

corky

To Pellboy, Geordan, On the Mark,& any other of our regular posters here....

I'm at Knucks like, a LOT, (including for Jason Eady's set)and would really love to put some faces with the names. Julie has my business card in the T-shirt shop and will be glad to point me out.

And by the way, Geordan?
From what I could see, that drunk guy was bugging patrons as well as folks on both stages all evening, as well as any female that he saw.

He was escorted out of the venue & I'm fairly certain he was actually driven home. Try getting THAT done at any other venue in town!

corky

For whatever it's worth, Victor Wainright is well worth the price of admission alone. Killer piano player.

There's also some music in the back room, Corb Lund that looks interesting....

pellboy

Yeah, thanks, Corky, he's the one I know the least about having seen Davies and Gomes before. Checked out some videos of this band as well as his stint w/ the blues "supergroup", Southern Hospitality and he does impress. Looking forward to this, that is if I can talk the wife into going, she's interested in that ZZ Ward show at The Czar tomorrow night. Oh well, she's not bad nor bad to look at either so I win either way.

I'll try and look you up down there the next time, Corky.

onthemark

Geordan, glad to hear you are doing okay. What a way to end the evening!

Corky, I will make a point to look you up next time I am at Knuckleheads.
