Local bands: Take a shot at the Takeover

The fourth annual MidCoast Takeover will be the biggest of the four and no doubt the best. It will feature dozens of Kansas City/Lawrence and midwest bands performing in a great venue, the Shangri-La, in Austin, Texas, during the South by Southwest Music Conference, March 12-17. To be eligible for a time slot, you must register by 5 p.m. Jan. 10. The Takeover is not an official SXSW event, but it draws music fans from all over the globe who either can't get into the official gigs or who want a respite from the madness in downtown Austin. The Shangri-La is about a 10- to 15-minute walk from the heart of the music festival. It draws plenty of foot traffic. To register, go here.
