Should be interesting to see what Deacon does with a larger crowd, at the small venues he does a lot of audience participation. Although he did introduce a phone app at the last show that could be used during the show.

Animal Collective = ANOTHER wall of sound, techno, electronica, sunths, rave music being pushed as the cool new ANTI rock, anti "old people" music, cant wait for this "phase" to run its course.
These "groups" basically develop a show back in LA, and then take the same exact sounds on the road, then they act like they are twirling knobs and pushing buttons, yeah, no, it is all posing and the same no matter nosie comes out no matter their body motions.
THERE IS NOTHING ROCKville about Animal Collective (btw- another in a long line of current stupid fkg band names)(you can tell some fat old fk pushing the cutting supposed cutting edge came up with that nonsense name)(gimma a fkg break)
Have fun with this crap... just be sure to take your meds (rave drugs) before the show and it will be so awesome. Than again so would the DirecTV screen saver.
Cant wait for this "phase" to run its course.

WOW!!! he is so cutting edge cool, making such cool phone apps for concerts.
I bet that sure beats him trying out some new guitar leads/licks, or (gasp!) actually picking up a new instrument and learning it.

I caught Animal Collective at the Granada in 07 and it was a great show.
Deacon played at the Jackpot in Lawrence that same year and it was a blast. I'm not a huge fan of his records but it was such a fun live show. I agree with Green that I'm not sure how it will translate to a room the size of the Midland.

Pierce Deacon is an experimental composer and electronic musician.
In regards to why doesn't he try out some new guitar leads/licks, well, most likely because he doesn't play that instrument.
As for picking up a new instrument, he is credited with vocals, percussion, wave function generators, keyboards, trombone, tuba and electronics. He even played Carnegie Hall.
The app is pretty cool, basically makes a light show on your phone. I don't recall anyone else doing anything like this, even the artists at the top that could have some wild interactive displays with the crowd, think of 10,000 plus fans all flashing a light in Sprint Center, changing colors, strobbing, that would be sick as hell! His thing is to make live events more interactive. Think of the app as this generations lighter.
Save your rants for the hacks of the music industry, Deacon is odd for sure, but for everyone, but I think he is pretty badass!

Yeah, Deacon is so awesome that no one cares that he pre-programs the entire concert and stores it on an ipod, as long as when he pushes play back on stage, he looks like he doing something on stage and having fun. That is all that matters, except for the light show. The light show is more important than the sounds these days.
As long as he preprograms a neat looking light show and plays cool sounds on his ipod and people have fun, we dont need anyone playing instruments on stage, especially if he lets the audience runs some of the lights with his neato iphone app, and then it will seem kind of like a live concert, except for the recorded sounds, but who cares, as long as we have fun.

Yeah, while I don't know enough about them to totally agree with Pierce and Brad, judging by my very limited exposure to Animal Collective, they are way over my head.

Do your own research miss sensitive. He pushes play and that plays the show, it is precorded. It is not played live, which is no big deal(its like lip synching). Just drop a tab or two and watch the pretty lights or use that neato app, pretty colors.

Yea I shouldn't feed him but I feel bad for him. It's been a long winter, crossroads shows are on hold til it warms up. Just thinking he needs a bone. Look he could use some chit chat, most likely doesn't have friends or a lady, so maybe some silly chat about nothing could make his day.

Yup Dave, these days all it takes is getting the young, "raised on Big Pharma-drugs crowd" to over-take some of their meds, then put on a pretty light show and push play on prerecorded dance track (i.e. press play on the boom box) and then hop around on stage wearing a funny hat, act like you are really doing something, (e.g. push some buttons, twirl some knobs) then shout out HEY!!! HEY!!! 2-3 times and voila, the young tripping morons will flock to see your pretty lights.
At least back in the day Iron Butterfly played instruments versus these Britney Spears lip synch alike posers doing nothing but playing back a loop. It is a con job.
And note how sensitive they get when the truth is told. They start swatting at air, writing things about people whom they dont know, start doing analysis. It would be funny if it was not so sad.
Stay on your script-meds kids. Sorry, but it seems the joke is on you.
People who pay to see these crap shows of recorded music are fools. These fools were lucky to get together with their money in the first place.

It is as pre recorded as he can get away with. He may have a live drummer playing, but he is basically playing a boring, pre prorammed sounding, electronica drum beat, while Danny boy hops around acting like he is doing something (twirling knobs, pushing buttons) other than just pushing play, but the proof in the pudding.
