KC Jones

Well I never thought I'd see either one of these bands at the Sprint Center. From seeing either/both bands @ Liberty Hall, the Granada, Crossroads KC, Red Rocks, Bonnaroo, & Wakarusa to the Sprint Center? Should be interesting.

Bubba Brown

Is the FLAMING LIPS even 'big' enough to be at the Sprint Center? I saw them for the first time at the Uptown in fall, 2007 with a most interesting support band. BLACK KEYS will be a fine opener.

KC Jones

Regardless of the order of bands in the title above, the Flaming Lips will be the opener. The Black Keys are about as popular as ever, having headlined Cochella last year. It amazes me that in 2006, i saw them at the Granada. Heck, two years ago, I saw them at Crossroads KC. I guess as long as Dan Auerbach can keep churning out song after hit song, they will remain popular.

Kurt

The Sprint Center site says that the Flaming Lips are the opening act for the Black Keys.

Country Jesus

Hey KC Jones - I remember seeing the Black Keys at the Replay about 10 years ago along with 20-30 other people. I need to send the pictures to Finn so that he can post. I remember seeing the Flaming Lips at the Grand Emporium over 20 years ago back when they were more heavy/punk rock oriented...one of the loudest shows ever...wish I had pictures of that one. Hope the tickets are affordable.

General ticket sales begin Friday @ 10am. $41.50-$51.50 listed price.

KC Jones

Nice. I love the Replay Lounge. I've pretty much only seen the Sound of Urchin there a number of times, as well as Captured! By Robots! I was lucky enough to see the Drive-By Truckers at the Grand Emporium twice (2002 & 2003), it was packed to the gills the second time. Have pictures somewhere on a CD, taken from about 18 inches away from Patterson, Cooley and Isbell.

Bubba Brown

KC Jones, I must admit that is NEWS to me. Guess I fail to keep up on 'every' current band. I've seen the BLACK KEYS on David Letterman (I believe it was) and several other shows on late night TV.

Dave

Two great bands but this show would be even better at Starlight. Some good shows on the docket for 2013 so far, love it.

Country Jesus

KC Jones - I was at the 1st DBT show at the Emporium too. Not very packed for that one. Wish I would have seen the Smashing Pumpkins when they played there. Some of these rockers need to go the Country route and sell cheap ($25) tickets. Will this show pull 10,000? I'll be there inspite of the ticket prices.

Endtro

So tickets for this are 40-50 bucks? That seems awful steep for these two bands. Especially since The Flaming Lips have been putting on the exact same live show for almost 10 years now.

joeboo

40-50 bucks is about as cheap as you can expect any concert to be at the Sprint Center. Most are far, far more.

pellboy

Price doesn't bother me but the venue certainly does. I'll pass.

mankvill

Flaming Lips last show around here was headlining at Sandstone, so it's not a huge leap to go from that to opening at the Sprint Center

Kurt

I remember the Flaming Lips drew around 4,800 for their Sandstone show and other acts were with them also.

Papoon

Flaming Lips did two sold out shows last summer at Liberty Hall last summer. Shows were somewhat different from each other and have evolved over the past few years.

pellboy

With the floor open for GA, might they not close off the upper level in order to make it a more intimate, say 8,000 folks, venue? I would think that might work better for these types of acts.

gsp

good point pb, doesn't look like those seats are any cheaper, or at least not much.

Steve J

If Maroon 5 can just about sellout Sprint, so can Black Keys. And don't complain about ticket prices when you see how much Sigur Ros is at Starlight.

Plus they might get a Grammy buzz, like Arcade Fire did.

Endtro

Those Sigur Ros tickets are too pricey as well. Maybe I'm spoiled by so many >$20 Riot room, recordbar and Knuckleheads shows.

I still don't think this will get even close to selling out the Sprint Center, but I could be wrong. It would be pretty sad if Neil Young can't fill Sprint, but this double-bill can.

pellboy

"It would be pretty sad if Neil Young can't fill Sprint, but this double-bill can."

Haven't Justin Beiber, One Direction and Jason Aldean already confirmed that sad state of affairs?

Endtro

too true, pellboy

KC Jones

I was surprised at the Neil Young show, that a curtain behind the stage closed off half of the arena. It was like being at Hale Arena or something...

gsp

Best sound I ever heard there that night and the lower level seats at the back of the arena were pretty good then.

Kurt

This show is selling well. GA Floor is sold out and only have single tickets in lower level A also.

Kurt

I remember the Flaming Lips on Beverly Hills 90120. They must be a cool act if they were on Beverly Hills 90120.

Emily

Thanks for the info on the box office. I got there about 10 mins early and there was a decent line, but it wasn't too bad..definitely worth avoiding the fees.

corky

That was one cool Neil Young show....

He may not have filled the Sprint Center very well, but those of us that were there saw a great set.

This video, crappy tho it may be, says it all for me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LowRli1JEiE

Headed down to see that Jason Eady set at the Gospel Lounge at Knuck's. For just $18.
(Anyone else?)

Burt

Thank you very much for posting that video Corky, I didnt know any video existed of that show. BIG PROPS TO WHOMEVER TOOK/POSTED IT!!! THANKS!!!

It broke my heart that I could not grab some video at that show as I moved around the GA floor, it was so awesome, so many sides of Neil that night... but yeah, the morons stayed home and now Neil doesnt come to KC anymore, and I understand why.

Selling out crappy artist du jour, supporting boring mellow fests, but ignoring Neil Young, what a joke this town can be.

Kurt

GA Floor is sold out and Lower Level A and B have only single tickets. The upper level at the end of the arena is sold out also. Only pairs of tickets in the upper level on the sides.

Steve J

S.C. confirmed Will Call tickets are day of show only. Price for getting good seats I guess.

Steve J

Kurt, I don't think they sold upper deck tickets at the end (behind the curtain) yet.

Dave

Are all the GA tickets Will Call only? I am not sure how big a deal this will be BUT if I have a GA floor ticket, and I have to wait until the day of the show to pick up my ticket from Will Call, I wonder how soon people will start getting in line to enter the building? I can see myself waiting forever in the Will Call line and meanwhile, a thousand other people are already in line to enter the building, and then I wind up staring at the back of "tall sweaty guy" for the whole show.

KC Jones

Nice! Those Neil Young videos remind me of what fun I had at that show. Got two $75 lower level tickets for $30 each. Can't beat that price. Neil always puts on a good show.
