I've put that one on my calendar, I really liked their first album and my nephew gave it to me several months before they got any attention. I will be there!
Well not every band is going to sound like The Darkness and that video isn't really all that interesting BUT I hear some elements of Sonic Youth in their sound and I am looking to their show. Hopefully the chatty cats stay home!
Wow, I am so unhip I had to google this band, but decided to see/hear for myself what all the excitement coming from this thread was about and I'm afraid I'm with ZZZZZZs on this one. Really...great show? If they were any quieter, only dogs could hear them. My god, between this band and Keane, I knew there was a reason why I haven't kept up on the so-called indy rock scene because most of it sucks. Usually shy away from dissing others musical likes, but I just couldn't stay silent about this sleep-inducing act. I can see no other explanation for heralding this band other than a strong desire to appear (by current musical definition) hip.
I know there is a place for all kinds of music (lord knows there is in my collection) but I just can't rationalize this act in any conceivable way. In fact, listening to XX has driven me to the point of making this extremely hard to keep internet promise...I will NEVER, EVER bash the Night Rangers/38 Specials of the world again. To steal a phrase from an esteemed fellow poster...pellboy said it.
Sweet, pellboy, you've just joined the dump-troll and not only injected how much you don't like this band but insinuated that there is no valid reason for anyone else to.
I see what you are saying pellboy and I try not to bash other people's musical tastes too, and I totally understand that this show won't be for everyone. Yeah I liked freaking Night Ranger when I was 12 but jesus H I'm 43 years old and more and more I want to hear bands that sound a little different or have some subleties that you find after a few listens. I will probably wear my ass-less leather pants and rcck out at The Darkness, but then I will probably smoke some clove cigarettes and chill at The XX show haha. We live in Cowtown Kansas City! Bon Jovi and Kenny Chesney put their kids through college from all the shows they roll through KC. I am just thankful for something outside the norm now and then, even at the risk of trying to look like a hipster.
Dave gets it. Just bored at work today (listening to XX certainly didn't help :) ) and yes, probably trolling a little bit. Just trying to have some fun, but jeezuz, those guys are somnambulant.
I respect it when people call it like they see it, not as they are told to see it, not as other want them to see it.
Right on with your opinion Pellboy, nice to see you not fall for that name calling BS. There is enough room here for all opinions.
I dont always agree with PB (e.g. his stupid love of rap crap) but I respect the heck out of his opinion (whether I agree or not) and I resepct him for being a great BTR board member, and I will back him up everytime, even his right to be wrong about rap.
How fkg lame for someone to lump him in with DT, say something like "you've just joined the dump-troll"... PB has a much more open mind than him.... as great as DT is, he seems to be kind of limited of types of music he loves (which is his right), but PELLBOY is VERY open minded about music, and doesnt deserve that BS name calling at the first moment he goes against the grain.
I read BTR to learn about music I might not other wise know about (most of it sucks) but still I go to youtube and check it out.... like Bloc Party, they were was a VERY NICE surprise, they have the modern electronica edge, but they kept the guitars, and there is nothing wrong with that. I learned :)
Watching this XX video-
it is a if they were shown the video "PANAMA" by Van Halen and then told "Ok see that? go make EXACT opposite, make it ANTI ROCK.
And it seems as a kicker they have a product placement deal with "super glue" (applied to their shoes).
Would someone PLEEEEEZE invent the damned time machine already, I wanna get the fk outta here and go back... I wanns go back to when life was F U N ! ! back when no one would allow super glue to not do product placements in music videos
I think the fact that "Panama" has become the gold standard for music videos is part of the reason the terrorists hate America. Although, again, I still try to squeeze into my 80s assless leather chaps from time to time. I think The XX cover version of "Panama" would have a line like "reach down, between my legs, ease the seat back....smoke my clove cigarette." Something like that. So yeah, their video sucks ("Hey we are being ironic, don't you get it?") but both their albums are very good 3 am chill out music. Can't really compare them to Van Halen or Night Ranger or GWAR or Dio. But I still like them and I will go to their show and nod along like I am experiencing something deep that none of you understand haha. Listen to Sonic Youth's song "Diamond Sea" or "Hoarfrost" and it sort of reminds me of The XX. They aren't as unbelievably awesome as Sonic Youth, but I like it enough to spend 70 minutes with them.
Yeah, Mikey, as I said, not usually my style but was bored and maybe it was just all the excitement for this "band" that drove me over the edge this time.
see, you put "band" in quotes and say it's people being excited about them that made you want to shit on them. that's some entry-level trolling. didn't expect it from you.
XX's next single is going to be called "Lets all superglue our shoes the the floor and stare at them"... followed up by "lets all be sad, and kill ourselves together"
If you want some Cheap Trick like R&R , go see FREE ENERGY on Monday at Czar bar. A national act that is fun. I'll be there and you can buy me a shot... please.
I'll co-sign the Free Energy rec. Great power-pop.
Also, I know there are quite a few alt-country fans that would like American Aquarium. I think Geordan mentioned them here a while back but they're good. Jason Isbell produced their last album as well. They're playing at The Bottleneck in Lawrence tonight and Knuckleheads on Friday, Feb 1st.
$48.85 is a bit steep. Alabama Shakes is like $30. Hopefully there will be some decent opening bands or something. A lot of good shows being announced lately. Wish I could see them all. I will definitely go to Airborne Toxic Event. I'd like to see Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field too! Too many shows, not enough dough.
Or they can do me favor like they've done since Vanilla - and give the pet via a gold purchase through an NPC vendor and sell it for an expensive gold price. If they did this matter quamoshou http://quamoshou.blog-host.nl/
Magnet The online version of "the bi-monthly, internationally distributed, glossy music magazine that gives well-deserved attention to musicians largely ignored by mainstream publications."
Metacritic Lots and lots of critics praise and bitch about music (and movies, DVDs, games, books and TV).
Paste "The premier magazine for people who still enjoy discovering new music, prize substance and songcraft over fads and manufactured attitude, and appreciate quality music in whatever genre it might inhabit."
Already booking June ... liking this one!

Oh no!! I feel asleep watching this (most boring )video (of all time) on my lunch break, and now I am late getting back to work. CRAP!
Note to self:
Drink two or three bottles of "5 hour energy" before watching The XX videos. For truth in advertsing they should be called The ZZZZZZZZs
Posted by: The ZZZZZZZZZs | January 22, 2013 at 12:55 PM
This should be a great show!
