Mike Webber has appeared in this space before: He wrote this splendid review of a Pogues' show this summer, which was picked up by several Web sites, including one devoted to the Pogues. OVer the years, Webber has collected lots of photographs taken at the hundreds of rock shows he has attended. Starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, he'll open an exhibition of some of those photos at Hattie's Fine Coffee, 4195 Somerset Drive in Prairie Village (about a block northwest of 83rd Street and Mission Road).
Among the collection, photos of Steve Earle (above) at the Grand Emporium during his "Copperhead Road" tour (when he was still a user, in other words), and Bruce Springsteen at Kemper Arena in 1980.
In the e-mail accompanying the invite/announcement, Webber had this to say:
About 90 percent of the photos will be from Kansas City shows from when I was working in the local record stores (Capers Corner, PennyLane, Music Exchange) so it's a nice little set of memories for people who may have attended shows here during that period. At the end of the last run, we auctioned some off and gave the proceeds to Kirk Rundstrom of Splitlip Rayfield. This being the Christmas season, we'll probably do something similar this time as soon as I decide for whom.
If you come by on Saturday, I'll see you there. Corky Carrell and a lot of my old colleagues from Capers Corner, PennyLane and the Music Exchange are likely to be there as well. If you come by another time, drop me a line and let me know how you liked it.
