The Eagles have made a deal with the biggest retailer in the world and Don Henley wants you to know why: Because the record labels are even more evil (or aren't less evil) than Wal-Mart.
When the Eagles release their new album later this year, it will be available only at Wal-Mart for the first year. He explains in further detail in this Los Angeles Times story.
The Eagles aren't the only band looking for other ways to promote and sell their music. The Goo Goo Dolls recently went live on QVC to peddle their latest album and a live DVD that will be available only through the shopping network.
Did they do it for love? Did they do it for money? I think we know.
"Did they do it for love? Did they do it for money?"
That's funny -- because those words are directly out of an Eagles' song. I think it's Desperado or maybe Victim of Love. Either way, it's proof that it's hard to escape the pervasiveness of Eagles' lyrics. They're like kudzu. And your post is like the buildings or trees that kudzu grows on, if you take my meaning.
Anyway, to your point about The Eagles selling records exclusively at Wal-Mart. Well, I've got to think it's a profit deal for the band, otherwise it would seem to make more sense to sell them everywhere.
Their real problem is going to be trying to keep their songs off the radio so people won't just listen for free and then NOT go to Wal-Mart. Plus all the downloading.
Good investigative work. Keep it coming.
What would be cool would be if the Eagles would wear disguises and go on American Idol and try to win. They probably could pull it off if they're still as good as they were (and here I'm talking about the Randy Meisner era, not that Timothy B. Schmidt nonsense). Anyway, people could bet on if the Eagles would win (though they'd need a fake name, like "The Falcons") and if the "Falcons" won the viewers who picked them would get a free, or discounted, CD at Wal-Mart and maybe a free subscription to the L.A. Times. Or at least a discount on an L.A. Times subscription sold on QVC.
Hey, I also notice that there's nowhere to post comments on the stuff over on the right side of the screen -- like the "Discussions" and "Venues" sections. Will that option be offered soon? I might have some thoughts on that.

For one I agree with Mr. Roonst..although now that I think about it it could be Mrs. Roonst...Flornst is neither masculine or feminine...sorta like one of thos bathrooms on a 737 Southwest Airline flight to Phoenix. You didn't want to go to Phoenix but it was part of the deal...
That's an ok song, By the Time I get to Phoenix...I always liked Wichita Linemen better though...Jimmy Webb wrote both those songs but a lot of people remember him better for being under 6 feet tall and still playing point guard in the NBA for years and years...he even won the slam dunk contest once.
I guess this doesn't have much to do with the Eagles, does it? Course they don't have much to do with music either...But I do think a really good idea for a credit card commerical would be to see people using it and hearing Take it to the Limit in the background.
