Word from the casino on Saturday's show: No opening band, and they'll go on as close as they can to the 8 p.m. starting time. Above: Chrissie covers Steve Earle's "Goodbye."
My heart was broken in the 80s when their show with Iggy Pop was cancelled in Norman.

Like mean people, canceled shows suck.

I'm looking forward to tonight's show. I got Second row center seats the day they went on sale and am glad to see that most of the tickets have been snatched up (or so I've heard). I think "Break Up The Concrete," The Pretenders latest disc, is the best work Chrissie and company have done since the band's heyday. "Love's A Mystery" is certainly my favorite Pretenders song in many years.
I have also been revisiting the first two Pretenders albums lately and I still think they are both just about perfect. I last saw The Pretenders at the Uptown in 1981 (the original band kicked ass), but with the amzing Martin Chambers on drums and the inclusion of guitarist James Walbourne (on loan from The Pernice Brothers-one of my favorite bands) and steel guitarist Eric Heywood (Son Volt), this is going to be a cool show.

Gary, I hear you on the cancellation of the the PRETENDERS / IGGY POP show. Believe that was in 1984. Talk about let downs? A former neighbor of mine lost out on catching a ZEPPELIN show in the late '70's when a concert of theirs was called off one day in advance. Whenever I run into him, we still sort of 'moan' about it.
