Review: Paul McCartney
Photos by Garvey Scott/The Star When tickets went on sale for Paul McCartney's first show in Kansas City in more than 17 years, the ticket prices -- as high as $250 -- made even some hard-core Beatles fans mutter and stew. Saturday night during his show at the Sprint Center, McCartney took some of the sting out of that sticker shock with some impressive numbers of his own. The show lasted about 12 minutes shy of three hours. The setlist comprised more than three dozen songs and touched many phases of his Beatles, Wings and solo careers. McCartney, who turned...

McCartney: A fan's view
Star colleague Dave Helling, one of our city's best and best-known journalists, saw Macca at Sprint Center on Saturday night. Here is his take. SING THE CHANGES: WHY MCCARTNEY MATTERS Paul McCartney and his band have packed up their gear and headed off to wherever they cool their heels between shows. Maybe McCartney can get a drink of water, which he didn't seem to need during his almost-three-hour show Saturday night in Kansas City. The reviews are rolling in, too, and they're following an absolutely predictable pattern: Raves from most critics and fans; whiny complaints from cranky hipsters who'd prefer...

Cancel a show because of birds, come on, why didnt they scare the birds away, why didnt they put a tarp up, why didnt he wear a hat, maybe get an umbrella? Move around, sing in the back or something. Don't they do sound checks, nobody noticed the birds then? If you tour then you have to accept the fact things come up or down, haha, but you have to work them out. You cant pack up and go because something like that, sure its not wonderful but 10,000 people came to see you, some of them might have traveled a long way, some might have spent there last couple dollars, Kings these guys are not, Kids of Leon should be their new name!

At least the concert-goers have been offered a full refund. Dare I say the Kings might have had this coming after their last two records?

Say, I've heard that bird poop CAN blind you IF it gets in your mouth. Remember that scene in the movie 'High Anxiety' when Mel Brooks gets 'bombarded' with pigeon crap? Eww!

Remember when Axl walked after beating a fan for filming him, then the fans started a roit and wrecked the venue, those were the days, back when fans were fans.

Mike Campbell passes out due to heat exhaustion in St. Louis and comes back to do an three song encore and he is in his fifties! What happened to the show must go on?

Cyndi Lauper took a load of bird poop in the mouth and kept singing. She must think these guys are total wusses.

Obvious/dumb question: Couldn't they have played the rest of the show without the bass, or used the bass tech to play his parts?
