Another bloated music agenda this week. Saturday is especially insane: two radio-station festivals and a great show in Lawrence plus Alejandro returns to town. Unless you're Batman, you've got some choosing to do. If you like Celtic rock, this is your week, too. Oh ... and Michael Bolton is in town.
- Tonight: Kid Cudi is at the Midland; Frank Turner is at Crosstown Station; Early Man/Evil/Bonded by Blood/Serated at the Riot Room. Jazz fans: Bobby Watson is at the Blue Room.
- Tuesday: The Walkmen at the Bottleneck in Lawrence; Barclay Martin Ensemble at Jardines; David George with Kirsten Paludan at the RecordBar; Straight No Chaser at the Midland
- Wednesday: Bring Me the Horizon/August Burns Red at the Beaumont Club; Michael Bolton at Yardley Hall; the Life and Times/Mt. St. Helens at the RecordBar
- Thursday: Foxy Shazam with Free Energy at the RecordBar; Celtic Thunder at the Independence Events Center
- Friday: Delbert McClinton at Knuckleheads; Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Lied Center in Lawrence; Diverse/Soul Providers at the 18th & Highland Block Party; the Elders at the RecordBar
- Saturday: Janelle Monae/Of Montreal at Liberty Hall; Sevendust/Drowning Pool/FIve FInger Death Punch at the Midland; Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros/Middle Class Rut/Fourth of July/Grisly Hand at the Back Yard/ Beaumont Club; Raheem DeVaughn/Tank at the Uptown Theater; Alejandro Escovedo at Knuckleheads; Henry Clay & the Full-Grown Men at BB's Lawnside BBQ; Dead Kenny G's/Snuff Jazz at Davey's Uptown; American Catastrophe/Ad Astera Arkstra/String and Return/Monta at Odds at Crosstown Station.

Indeed, a great time to be a live music fan!
Question about the picture above of Janelle Monae. Isn't she also the singer for Goodfoot? Or just a striking resemblance?

If you head to Knuckleheads, I recommend getting there by 9 to catch Brennen Leigh. She is opening the show. She's a great country/bluegrass songwriter from Austin.

Brennen is opening for Alejandro Escovedo on Saturday at Knuckleheads, to be more exact.

Janelle Monae would be fun but not sure I wanna sit through Of Montreal, guess I could leave, Janelle does open, but thats a long drive for a opening act. Has anyone picked up her new cd, its pretty good!

Looking forward to the sultry sounds of Janiva Magness tomorrow night at Knuckleheads. She was really good the last time her and her band played there. Being a fiend for Power Pop, I may have to race over to the Record Bar after Janiva for Foxy Shazam. Good times......
