Ozzy Ozbourne comes to town next Saturday. Ozzy turned 62 in December and is into his sixth decade of music, which makes him the undisputed godfather of metal. Seems like a good reason to ask: Where does Ozzy fit in rock history and who are your metal gods?
How about his role in pop culture? I compare him to Willie Nelson and Snoop Dog, people who everybody knows, even if you hate there types of music. Icons.

yep.

I guess he's a metal god but Rob Halford comes to mind, they did the song "Metal Gods."

I am much less of a fan of Ozzy after watching his buffoonery and slurred speech and his seeeming stupidity during his TV show. I watched it on and off, mostly off, which ius what it did to me, it really turned me off as a fan. I hope he made a lot of money because it cost him my repsct, not that he gives a sht, but I will leave after Slash lays it down on Saturday.
Kind of sorry to say it,
but.... FK OZZY!!!
ps
$30.00 tickets for back of arena are a bargain to see Slash again, I cant wait.

Speaking of Slash, ew.com has an interview with him talking about the tour, and that video with Fergie...

Best RnR singer of all time?
""I’d probably say Mick Jagger, only because Mick has been doing it for so long and he’s one of the most charismatic frontmen""

How about maybe IAN GILLAN? Or the late great RONNIE JAMES DIO? Neither of those two were slackers - still cannot believe that DIO is gone.
Hey, how about all three of the current original members of SLAYER? There you go! Bubba said it - don't forget it.
Posted by: Bubba | January 16, 2011 at 02:50 PM
dang, did you see the video from that ew interview? Fergie, OMG.

One of my 3 wishes would be able to "body hop" and become someone else, from time to time. I would jump from being Charlie Sheen to Slash to David Duchovny and then back to me, because after all, I am pretty cool too :)

Ozzy's recent solo sets have been really good.
But yeah, gimme Dio any day.
Posted by: mankvill | January 16, 2011 at 05:45 PM
Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Dio.

Flabbergasted…your article has left me flabbergasted. You are true when you say this. I think very few individuals will accept this issue openly and then deal with it so well. Go on!!! :-o

Halford and Dio are definitely tied for my favorite Metal vocalist, but to pick a favorite is all about personal taste. I would say that AC/DC are way up there. Randy Rhoads, who I was fortunate enough to see live, is also high on my list. I also agree with Bubba's nomination of Slayer.
My younger brother turned me on to Slayer's REIGN IN BLOOD in '86, when I thought I was through with Metal. Well, those guys' music kicked me in the crotch and proved that Metal wasn't through with ME yet! Any band that can produce an album like that will always get my attention.

Ozzy is probably deserving of that title and although I do like his prime stuff both Sabbath and solo, I prefer the as mentioned RJD and Ian Gillan.
Posted by: pellboy | January 17, 2011 at 10:23 AM
AC/DC is at the top of my list, and Scorpions, Maiden and early Van Halen were important.
But narrowing it down to iconic metal frontmen, it's between Ozzy and Dio.
-- Ozzy beats Dio on Black Sabbath because he was there first and sang on a longer list of significant songs.
-- Ozzy also beats Dio on solo career. Ozzy had Randy and then Zakk, who gave him two supreme peaks of greatness after Black Sabbath. Dio had Vivian, who was stellar but short-lived.
-- But Dio was a far better singer and a far better live performer. Even at 65, when touring with Heaven & Hell, he was mighty. And he never wasted his fans' time during concerts by spraying hoses or making tedious demands (even during great guitar moments) to scream louder.
-- And Dio never embarrassed himself on a sad reality TV show.
I respect what Ozzy has done, but he has disappointed me too many times, especially live.
For me, Dio is the guy.

Now that Van Halen has hired him as lead singer, I would have to declare "Ricky Gervais king god of all metal"

crap :( WE NEED MORE SLASH LESS ozzy.
So far, Slash has a pretty short set list for this leg. I wish Slash would be equal billed with that fat, slurring, Subservient to his wife, mental retard, feeble, ozzy idiot.
I am not sure if 11 songs is worth the hassle. Guess I am just happy to have seen the FULL Salsh show back in August.

will predict right now, SLASH IS BACK, and ready to take over. He did the small hall gig tour thing, now he is doing the open thing and next year that muthafkr will be back playing arenas and assuming his position and the greatest, baddestass muthafkn rockandrknrolling muthafkr.
Slash has put the time and space between him and GnR days, he has let the music, he stayed classy, he let the music do the talking, he is a man of wealth and taste.
Axl is anow has been and will fade from the Earth and Slash will emerge as THE rockingand fknrolling muthafkr.
Posted by: TooShortII | January 19, 2011 at 08:04 AM
Axl's a has-been and Slash ISN'T?? Dude, put down the bong, ya deluded cretin. Slash should be kissing Ozzy's geriatric a$$ for this gig! Just cos' he wears a Top Hat does not make him "classy." Besides, after reading all the pseudo-profanity in every single one of your posts here, I'd say that classy and YOU aren't on speaking terms. Anyway, I'd be excited to see Ozzy and Slash.......if it were 1987.

more typical doucher comments from offthemark, but that is OK, it is what we have come to expect from offthemark.

My post, spelling corrected (never could do the there/their right) was used in the paper! If that's my 15 minutes of fame, I feel ripped off, or I need to do more with my life.

Good job Steve J, you have more minutes fame and wealth coming, keep up the good work.

Ozzy is iconic with metal and deserves this title I guess. I'm not really thrilled with his reality TV show. Not too thrilled with seeing Sharon on all the TV shows also. It's too much.

I was kind of addicted to the same thing that you had mentioned in this topic, but after reading your article, I realized that this ain’t what I have to suffer from or experience. I hope to work harder against this addiction.

I have kept your article on the desktop of my computer. The day I feel depressed and lost, it is when I make it a point to open your article. This surely encourages me in a positive manner to do well and reminds me that I am not the only one facing the problem, there are many others like me. Thank You a ton for writing such a wonderful piece of information.
