Health issues forced singer Marilyn Maye to cancel her home stand at the club, planned tonight through Sunday. The club is promising to reschedule her as soon as possible. In the meantime, they’re rounding up some good acts in her place; we don’t have a schedule yet but we'll pass it on when we hear more.
The official release from Jardine's follows:
Jardine's greatly regrets that we must cancel the Marilyn Maye show, Marilyn is in the hospital, we trust for what turns out to be something not serious. The Show will be reschedule in the near future. In the meantime, we keep her in our thoughts and prayers. In Jardine's fashion and that of the Kansas City Jazz Community, we have scheduled outstanding talent for each of the canceled nights. For this week, there will be no cover charge for those eating dinner and a reduced cover charge for those who just want to enjoy great jazz.
Jardine's will be closed on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19.
Thank you for your understanding.
Here's hoping that melodic Marilyn will be back in fine fettle soon. I remember her with great fondness. Milt Able and the Marilyn Maye Trio....yeaa!!

Sure hope Miss Maye gets well soon. During her first years in K.C, it was a thrill to catch her at clubs like the Castaways and Ralph Gaines's Colony Steakhouse, with the Sammy Tucker Trio.
(Milt Abel, mentioned in an earlier post, played bass behind his wife, Bettye Miller's, piano.)

What a great entertainer!!! I sang with a local pop and rock group at the Playboy Club. She appeared twice while we were there. While she was always a nice person, she made it tough for me to justify what we
were doing. Get well soon.
