Just going Friday, and I'm one that's looking forward to it. Long-range forecast today was in mid-80's and some rain! Hope they're right about that! If not, I'll be hanging out at the Water Slide Area...

Kinda curious about this water slide

Please go see Gardens & Villa on Saturday. They stay at my house when they come to town, as they will this time. They are a great bunch of guys trying to live the dream. I just bought my VIP tickets and ready to throw down.
As a sidebar, I saw Not a Planet for the first time last night over at Town Center Plaza. Rode my bike, had a cold reasonably priced 22 ounce Sapporo and rocked out. A good band. Check 'em out if you get a chance.

LOL, what in the world is a Stagesaurus Rex?
Is there map of the grounds posted somewhere?
Will there be a fire sale on last minute tickets?
Is camping just out in the parking lot, or is it inside the track?
Can I bring a chair?

Wonder if they will do a groupon to finish off the sale before they hike tickets on festival days. That will surely make some people mad but I suppose if it brings it to a starting price people might not be to upset. Would love to know how many tickets have sold.

I, for one will likely pass on KanRockass. Have they ever had any previous concerts at this outdoor venue? Might go to catch JANE'S ADDICTION with BUSH and INCUBUS on August 19 - I believe it is.

From the looks of this entrance map,
http://kanrocksas.com/info/venue
they are just begging for a traffic jam.
Just like a grocery store with 10 checkout lanes in place... BUT... only one lane is open, there is only one entrance at kansnrockaasurs.
Why have 15 possible entrances and only use one? yeah yeah... blah blah blah...yeah yeah... uh huh, OK... whatever you say... and... oh, you are not making a dime either? okey dokey.
I heard this one before....

They are just begging for a traffic jam, read about it here the Monday afterwards. I predict this headline.....
"ENTRANCE NIGHTMARE- promoter promise to do better next year"
PS
Kansas Speedway is built for easy in and easy out, on 2 major highways (435 and I 70) with 15 entrances built... but they dont use them, even for races...
Did anyone else read this story about the nightmare of Knetucky Speedway 2 weeks ago....
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=jh-reader_reaction_kentucky_traffic-071111
Do you think the promoters care? Why build all those entrances at Ks speedway and then only use one?
yeah yeah blah blah...never made dime.... yeah yeah... blah blah...
dang it is hot

It could be a mess Jake, looks like they are trying to control people from getting into the camping area that dont have passes, it could a mess but you also have to figure its a two day gig with set times starting early and going all day and night. Maybe they think it will be a steady flow of people and not a rush in the morning. The second day will likely be smoother with Muse headlining and a lot of people already parked and camping. I believe they want everyone to have a wristband that enters the grass so its clearly a control thing, but a second or even third gate would help. Arrowhead has what, 3 maybe 4 entrances and thats a full on 70K in a few hours, this is a little different. No doubt they will try things this year and perfect them next year and the year after.

As usual, I make posts hoping to do some good. It is not just complaining.
I am happy to help out by posting easy links, but when I looked over the parking maps, it seems obvious there could be some major issues... and maybe one of the main men (btw- I am a Chris Frotz fan) will hear, and understand the point (about 15 gates and only using 1) and maybe they will alter the plan.... and if that saves 10,000 of my frinds some hassle... then it is worth it the trouble of posting... some call that trolling, I call that trying to do some good, make it better, in the future.
I am still deciding wether to go, or not, this will be historic, but... sigh, most of these bands are not my style... maybe next year... or in 5 years... I hope it works, I hope they "make a dime" .... cuz it would be awesome to have out own "bonnaroo thingy" right here in river city.

Only 90 minutes for the headliners? Seems a little short.
Posted by: The Truth | July 25, 2011 at 10:54 AM
Festival sets are always shorter, they range from 30, 45, 60 and 90 mins, headliners get the longest but its a festival so you wont get much more than 90 mins from the headliner.

I don't understand why the Main Stage only has 2 acts all day Saturday? Are they still looking to add another big name or two?
Scheduling two of the bigger Saturday names at the same performance time is ridiculous, Perfect Circle and Girl Talk overlap completely. Horrible planning there.

When I saw MARILYN MANSON at Sandstone in 2009 at the Mayhem Energy Drink Festival, they played for a mere 50 minutes. Heard when they were at the Uptown a year or so earlier, MANSON was onstage on 90 minutes. Anyone remember at Freakers Ball in 2006 when their gig was cut off after two songs? I found out online at concerts they performed on that particular tour, their sets were between 50 to 55 minutes. My point is - YEAH festivals usually have bands play shorter sets. Hope everyone has a great time at KanRocksas.

@Green: I guess you're right. I've been to more than one festival this year (Waka and Bonnaroo) and many more in the past few. I looking back over the schedules I have, most headliners (with a few exceptions) get 90 minutes. Huh. I thought it to be longer.
@Joeboo: It's impossible to keep everyone happy, and at every festival I've ever been to, there are some pretty egregious (in my mind at least) scheduling conflicts. It's the nature of the beast. And, considering the two you mention, those are pretty disparate acts. One is late 90s moody rock; the other is more current, electronic-based computer pop. Those don't always attract the same crowd. I can see why you like both, but that may have been a safe bet for those who schedule the festival because they are so different.

Thats the bad part about festivals, your fav band will most likely get a short set, I remember Tool playing Ozzfest and Lola, I think they had about 45 mins each time, killer for a band with long songs but its part of the deal, you see more bands but get short sets. Jam bands usually get a little longer. Phish, Moe, Panic, they usually get a few hours but often times its their festival and not something like Lola, Kanrocksas or Coachella. The other thing that sucks about Festies is viewing location, doubtful you will be very close. I was lucky at Memphis in May a couple years back, they had 2 or 3 headliners all going at once so it really divided the crowds, I was surprised to see Kanrocksas has the headliner on their own, its gonna be packed at that stage. In the end its trade offs, seeing 10 to 15 bands is pretty cool, cant complain to much about that.

Truth, see anyone you liked at Waka or Bonnaroo, I know Bonnaroo usually has a lot of up and coming talent, friend of mine has been hitting it for about 10 years now, I would like to check it out sometime.
