Review: Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s reputation will always precede her. These days, she is saddled with the burden of exceeding it or at least equaling it. Monday night, she headlined a show at the Sprint Center, two and a half years after she brought her spectacular Monster Ball Tour to the same arena — her first headlining show in Kansas City. That show was an extravagant spectacle, a garish and gargantuan two-hour dance-rock opera that followed a loose narrative about monsters and evil. She gave herself a hard act to follow. Thirty months later, Lady Gaga (born Stefani Germanotta) isn’t quite the pop-culture...

Ink's Middle of the Map unfolds its 2013 lineup
Grizzly Bear will perform at Ink's Middle of the Map Fest in April. Organizers of Ink’s Middle of the Map Fest have announced more than half of the 100-plus bands that will perform April 4-6 at venues in and near Westport. This year’s lineup of established national acts includes Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, the Joy Formidable, Tennis and Wovenhand. It will also include dozens of emerging national and regional bands, as well as dozens of bands from Kansas City, Lawrence and the surrounding region. The festival, entering its third year, is sponsored by Ink magazine, a sister publication of the Kansas...

I like this band. Always have....
Hopefully the lack of commentary doesn't mean they're being ignored here?
The 'boat shows' aren't nearly as plentiful as they used to be. With Ameristar closing their showroom, I'm pretty sure the loss of that venue (along with the deep pockets the casinos book shows out of) means we 'miss' a number of tours that come through.
I will see this one for sure.

Never been to the voodoo, any tips on seating? All GA? Think I remember hearing something about tables.
Posted by: gsp | February 08, 2013 at 08:33 AM
From past experiences, floor is usually GA (standing) with reserved seating on the side risers, in the back and up in the balcony.

I suggest picking up a cheap (half off?) day of show ticket from craigslist in the GA... then just head down there... and I will keep doing/suggesting the CL thing until it stops working so dang good. It seems someone (or 5-10) ALWAYS has a cheap ticket available day of show, it is awesome.
VL has a high stage and multi standing levels (even an upstairs) which makes it fun to glide around and find a good view (and good company(avoiding the overly gabby), and the acoustics are great too.... not to mention the VL has excellent bathrooms, proper HV/AV, a real roof and walls and everything one expects in 2013. I like VL a lot.
PS
I would like to take this opportunity to give everyone on BTR a big internet high five for the proper (non)reply to whats her name who played the SC the other night. A nice collective yawn. ;)

I've never been to VL. Are the tables/couch seats worth the extra $30 per ticket? $75 per ticket starts to get pricey for a night out...

No, spend that extra $30.00 on booze.
$32 = great price for a good show in a real venue.
There is room to move there, even sold out, although not sold out is always better , for the crowd anyway.

I'm with DT on this. I usually just purchase a GA ticket (sans any service charges) at the casino prior to the show and then just roam the room (including upstairs) for different vantage points. The premium tables upstairs that overlook the floor would be a pretty cool spot to sit (have sat there for opening acts and then got booted) but are usually reserved for casino high-rollers and such so the other available seats just don't seem to be worth the extra $ as far as I'm concerned.

It's a great place, GA is good, very secure. Must be 21 and older.
